Subject: QC Sub - S8L7, 301S, Q-logic 3508

I just put in a Kicker S8L7 in a Q-logic 3508 truck box powered by an RF 301S. Sounds great! I have a couple questions for anyone who has done this with the L7 and the Q-logic box in a QC.

I put the box behind the 40 back seat (drivers side back) by removing just the seat back. Just removing the seat back worked great. The box is wedged up tightly against the seat back, and while the box has the L7 recessed about 1/2" from the front of the box I am a bit concerned that this is to close. I don't think that there is room for a grill without cutting into the seat back, but I may be able to wedge a 3/8" wood frame around the L7 if necessary.

Opinions?

Note that my son told me that his seat rumbles now. Cool,,, can I sit back there!

The "carpet" behind the back seats is actually a semi-rigid sound dampening material which can be easily cut with a box cutter knife. In order to install all three of my S8L5's behind the back seats I had to cut out holes in the sound dampening material in the shape of the enclosures that I was installing. You can get an extra inch and a half of depth by cutting it away.

I would recommend using one of the solo baric speaker grilles to insure that you have the correct clearance between the the subwoofer and the back of the seat. They are about 1.5 inches deep. Mine work great. I'm using 3 S8L5's driven by a Rockford Fosgate 501bd punch amp. Haha!!! Turned my 6 speaker system into a 9 speaker system...gotta love it!

Lurkin- I have a few questions. Are you still able to fold the 40% seat up? Did you have to modify the box for the sub to fit? Were did you get your sub and box?
Thank you for the help.

The Q-logic box (QLT-.3508, I think) was $65 with shipping at Crutchfield. I didn't spend any time trying to find this cheaper though.

The 40 seat does not fold up afterwards. The box needed to be modified for the square sub. With a router, jig saw, and Dremel this would have been easy, but I didn't have a router.

I bought the sub and amp from HookedonTronics. The price was about $10-20 higher then eBay, but they shipped immediately.

Two other notes. I'm not quite ready to cut any of the backing material/insulation from the back wall, as the road noise is intrusive enough as it is.

I am seriously considering adding the grill, but have not done so yet. Initially it looked like the grill was $35-40, and I wasn't sure I wanted to pay that for a $130 sub. Since then I have seen the grill's for $10-15.
