Subject: '02 Quad Cab SUB Recommendations
IP: Logged

Message:
I'm looking for recommendations on sub enclosures for my new 2002 QuadCab.

I have 2 perfect 10s (infinity) that i'd like to use if possible but will purchase whatever needed.

The problem is i need it needs to go under the or behind the rear seat, i cant sacrifice any "visible" space.

I will be driving my system with Phoenix Gold amp(s), i have a TI500.4 and a TI600.2, would like to use both (1 dedicated to the subs) if I have enough room.

Thanks for your help.

Hard to squeeze 10"s behind the seats of the Quad... drop down to 8"s and it becomes easier, but still a tight fit.

Yea, good luck fitting 10's without moving the seats up some how. Its been done from what i hear but have never seen pictures. But thats a pain. I had 3 8" solobaric L7's back there. I just sold the box i built for them but still have subs brand new in the box. They fit tightly in there but for sure fit. I have pics of the box that i made. Email me at norcalrydesdak@aol.com if you want to buy some subs or pics of the box that i made. Late

The loaded Thunderform for the QC comes with a 10". The T-form fits behind the 40 seat, and after installation that seat will not fold up.

You can also fit a single 8" behind the 40 seat using an 8" truck box. I am seriously considering this option using a Kicker L7 or L5, as I don't particularly like the T-form subwoofer, and I've "heard" bad things about the depth of the T-form if you try to replace it with another sub.

This is in addition to what the posters above said. In summary, you can make 8's (1-3, depending on your testosterone level :-) fit with little to no modifications. Note that more then 1 8 will require a custom box. 10's will require seat and mount modifications.

Under the back seats is not an option, unless you lift them somehow (which would be quite ugly...).

This is all assuming that you don't want to "see" the sub.

I threw 2 Rockford Fosgate 8's in the back of my Quad Cab in a Sub BOx ( 13W x 13.25H x 6.25 Deep (Bottom) 4.25 (Top). You'll have to put the jack someplace else and put speaker grills on to keep the speakers from hitting the back of the seat.

I've heard 8's before and thought that this was going to be a compromise in bass; but not anymore :-) You'll get better bass sound from speakers that aren't starved for space and have plenty of power, then from speakers that are starved for space.

Edgie is right. An 8 in a properly sized box will sound better than a 10 in too small of a box. Start by figuring out how much space you have and then choose the sub that is designed for that volume.

Do you have any pictures of this install?

I have seen several people say they have 2 10s or 2 12s behind the seat in a Quad Cab, but no one has any pictures of them. I would really like to see them. I'm not so sure these installs exist since no one that has one seems to have a camera.

If you really have this please post some pictures somewhere so I can see them. You can email me the pics if you can't post them. If you don't have any pictures either, at least post a description of how the install was done.

I bought the two boxes from BlackDak20 and spent 8 hours setting up my new stereo system. It was my first install, so there was a pretty steep learning curve. I used 3 8" Solo Baric L5's instead of L7's, but it sounds wonderful. Was a real pain in the butt getting the enclosures to fit behind the back 60/40 seats, but after I trimmed the insulation on the back of the cab, they fit nice and snug with the grills on the subs for protection and clearance. I'm using a Rockford Fosgate 501bd (thanks for the recommendation BlackDak20) and it sounds awesome. I think that the 3 8" sub configuration is optimal for a rich listening environment. Anything more would be overkill...at least that is my opinion...and you know how that goes...opinions are like @ssholes...everyone's got one. Good luck to everyone trying to squeeze subs into the quadcab...I'm glad I'm done with it and I will NEVER attempt it again.

I have an '04 Dakota quad cab and is in the same prediciment. I don't want to loose the back seats' ability to fold up, and i'm not too keen on putting the subs behind the back seats because there is no airflow, the coils will overheat. Unfortunately they don't make a box w\a small enough profile to fit under the back seats when they fold down. They only make them for the '02 club cabs. I guess they shrunk the size of the under-the-seat storage. What else am i left for options? I was thinking about putting an 8 under the center console (replace the middle seat up front) but one 8 wouldn't do anything. And i don't know who makes the mold for the seat once i tear the cussion out. Any suggestions???

You apparently have never heard the right 8" in the right enclosure powered with the right amount of juice. Check out a single L7 installed properly in a Dak QC and you'll be not just suprised, but impressed..

Here is another Idea for a QC sub set up. It is a custom made rear center console. It has a Kicker Solobaric S8L7. It is 1/2 MDF re-enforced with bondo and fiberglass. It is a clean set up and easily removed.

Wow, I must say I am impressed. Doesn't take away from the storage back there when the seats are up, doesn't take away from the ability to put passengers back there. And blends right into the cab. Very well done. Can anyone beat this one??? Like a bigger sub for louder yet still good and whole bass??

Bjs91, good work, very clean install!

You must not have young kids though. Something like this wouldn't work well for me as my two yard apes would be crawling all over that thing all the time. Also, you do lose the rear cup holders, which may be problematic depending on your situation.

You could build the cup holders into the box, but I suspect it might rumble a bit :-) I can envision a good "Got Chocolate Milk" commercial with that one. You know the ones where they do some strange stunt to shake it up.

A properly set up 8" driver will sound better than a 10" that you put in an enclosure with less than recomended space. Plus the Kicker squares have alot more displacement volume than the traditional round drivers.

8" round displaces 620cc
Kicker S8L5/S8L7 is at 805cc
10" round is around 980cc.

More displacement moves more air delivering more bass. granted you will not set off any car alarms but it is more than enough bass for quad cab.

Kicker two way 6.5 in the back doors 100w rms to each and the other phoenex gold 600.1 running one Kicker Solobaric L7 10" in custom to spec box I have a 2001 Dakota Quad Cab box sits on back floor with enough room for 2 people to fit in back even three if you want to get adventurous. Any way this configuration is AMAZING I listen to everything Alternative, Country,Classic Rock,Metal,Rap,techno, everything is tight, and crisp and very loud if you so desire
I have got noise violation tickets
Some of the questions people have asked me about my system are
How many 12's do you have in here?
Where are your subs?
Kicker Solobaric is that the square sub
My friend once said to me " You can tell when your system is good when your ears give out before the system distorts"
I am not trying to brag at all but

THIS SYSTEM ROCKS
