Subject: Moving cassette music to CD...
IP: Logged

Message:
Hello to all...

Very soon, I will be purchasing an Alpine CD head unit for my truck. I just can't take the factory cassette stereo any longer. Here's my dilema: I am a major Led Zeppelin fan with a large collection of bootleg live concerts on cassette tape. How does one go about transferring this music to CD? I know there's a way to do it, but would appreciate if someone could give me clear steps and instructions on how to do this or point me to a website that can.

Thanks in advance for the help

Regards,

David

Easy!

You need a few things.

1. a tape player (or walkman) that can go to the computer.

2. a cord to run from the tape player to the "line input" or "mic" on your sound card. (prob a male to male mini D plug connector).

3. Software that allows you to "record". The windows version doesnt cut it. - there is a program called polderbits i have found. but there is probably a feeware version somewhere otu there.

4. A Cd writter and blank CDs.

This is waht you do. bring the walkman/tape player to the computer. connect the cord from the headphone jack to the mic/line in jack on your soundcard. install teh software your going to use. (read the software directions to figure out how to record). Then record (press play on the tape deck and press reocrd on the computer program).

then take your wav files and write them to a cd. each wav file will make 1 track. there for dont just press play and play the WHOLE TAPE... youd end up with a 30 minute track!

when recording (this is prob docuemted in teh software) make sure you record at 44,000khz 16bits stereo. also known as "CD QUALITY".

my uncle did this and was really happy with what he got. keep in mind any distortion you hear on the tape will be picked up.. What you hear is what you get.

So if you have a high quality sound card, and a high quality tape player you should be in good shape.

GL let me know how it came out.

some head units (my pioneer for example) has external inputs. All you need is a walkman and a connecting cable. A cheap alternative for now.
