buying a seat was way too expensive, so i figured that i would call up some scrapyards and ask them if they had a rear 40 seat to a dodgedakota quadcab, after 8 different places i found a place that had a 2002 dodgedakota quadcab. i went down there and the seat was in perfect condition but it wasn't leather. i bought the seat and had a place leather it. a friend of mine cut the existing bolt from the 60 bench to scoot the seat over as far as i could, drilled it threaded it and bolted the seats down. he made new holes on the (sittingdown) left side so the seat would stay in place. next he took the latch thingy behind the sead (holds the seat up) and rotated it to the other side due to the seat being moved over and bam. done. the old bolt and screw hole in the floor board are still there but i am going to build a box over the bolt/hole and use it for theft proof and so the box wold stay in place.

THAT is an excellent idea. If I didn't need the room (which is why I have a qc in the first place)
I would try that. Let us know what you can fit in that space when it's all done.

Cool. I went through this exact task the other day.

Here's my 10 inch Fozgate HE series sub. It has 2 inches of excursion making clearance between the speaker and the rear of the seat critical!

The speaker, for a 10 inch, has a deep frame for the long throw. This requires a DEEP box. The 10 inch HE series will out perform most 12 inch speakers easy. Look at the size of the surrounding foam.

I also modified the top brackets on the rear of each seat so I can just lift them up and lower the seats down to access the amp and speaker without unbolting the seats (as shown on driver side seat). All I had to do was cut the extrensions off at the welds.

I had to drill new holes on the bottom mount on the right rear seat to move it forward almost 2 inches. I also extended the upper mounts to move it out. I barely got the speaker behind there.

The amp behind the smaller seat is an old Hi-Phonics "ZEUS". 600 watts back then was a big deal. It likes to blow up and it blew 3 of the mosfets in the power supply the next night after doing this mod. I cut the 3 bad ones out (out of 12 total!) and of course it still works. I ordered new mosfet transistors today. I'll have to limp it by for a few weeks. I played it today and it still pounds the sh*t out of that speaker. When I first got the speaker, I turned the amp up to see what I could do. Bye-bye speaker but I got a good warranty from Best Buy. Took the speaker back twice so far.

Shown here I can fold this seat down too. I just can't fold the bottom up all the way now.

Shown here is how it looks now. Almost un noticeable. The right rear seat is slightly forward now.

Anyway. Just wanted to share my adventure. It was a b*tch to figure out what to do about this. Until this mod my speaker was on the rear floor!

Box is 1 cubic foot ported. Good low response and over all range. You would think I had at least a nice 12 inch.

All that foam surround is what gives you less cone area. Look at a digital designs sub. It has and EROM (extended range of motion) surround. Instead of being really wide like 95% of the other subs it's tall. Result, 3" of peak to peak excursion with lots of cone area.

Sorry to tell you GraphiteDak...that RF sub has nowhere near 2 inches of linear excursion. MAYBE 1", but that's a stretch. But, whatever.

The Rockford Fosgate HE10 has an XMAX of .51". The Xmax parameter is the linear one-way distance that the cone will travel. In this situation, the HE10's cone will travel in .51" in front of it's resting position. It will not, however, travel that far behind it's resting position. Even if it did, the theoretical maximum x-window would still be only 1.02".
However, it is a very well performing sub and that box design is ingenious GraphiteDak.

I agree, the box is out of sight (I prefer stealth installs), and if it sounds good to you, that's all that matters!

I was GUESSING at the excursion. Thanks for the info.
But it's still a LOT more than any other sub I've had or seen.

I'm not actually into "audio clubs" or anything to hang with people who are obsessed enough to pull out all their seats and waste all their income on the best stereos. Therefore I'm not in that loop to know any more what is what these days except that I picked this one out of the section of speakers they had at Best Buy. :-P

I even still have my old Hi Phonics ZEUS amp. I keep repairing it when it blows up in fact I ordered some more IRFZ44 mosfets for it yesterday. Amps I can fix myself.

So who is this "digital designs"? Do they make great subs and how much?
I think I paid $150 for my 10 inch. It beats my last 12 inch I had.

DD has been around for a while now...they mostly make SPL-based subwoofers. They put a lot of engineering time and money into making them high quality and highly capable in the right enclosure.
Unlike many speaker manufacturers these days, they don't just put a "phat" surround on the sub and call it "excursion".

But again, if you are happy with it, that's what matters. I didn't mean to put you down, I just wanted to set you straight! hehe, nice website by the way, I was ROTFLMAO!

Thanks man.

I wasn't sure what the excursion is, but it's a lot more than my other subs. My other subs "POP" from over extending with way less power and volume than this one so it does me ok for now.

If there's another 10 inch better than this, and I mean NOTICABLY better I'd be interesting.

Oh, and thanks about the site. It's kind of a joke, but serious all at the same time.

SOLBARICS, are those the square subs?

Been years since I bothered to keep up on subs.

In the early days I had stuff like two 15 inch subs in a band bass ported up through the empty 6X9 holes in my cars. Loud as hell but EXPENSIVE and NO TRUNK.

Then as I needed more space, and a family and less time I dropped down to 12's. Then one 12, and then one 10.

I still like plenty of bass to go with my tunes. I always have. But now I want as much as possible with the least space.

As for my website, here in Phoenix, AZ that's what 90% of the youth and illegals from south of the boarder consider to be a STREET RACER!

It makes me sick when stock Chevy Caviliers, CIVIC's, Hyundai's, NEONS's, etc have window decals like "SUPER STREET", "RACING", "NOS", and the largest WING and FART CAN that a McDonalds hamburger flippin employee's money can buy runs on the roads cutting people off and rapping out his weed eater like it's a friging Corvette!!!!
Most of those my 4X4 will whoop all up and down the street.

It's the ones that are all stealth that kick my ass!

Let me know more about those subs, demensions, box size, etc. Maybe later on I'd be interested, especially if I could run TWO 10's that would be awesome.

And oh yeah. Make sure you click on my banner below he he he!

Well tonight I was replacing some of the bad mosfets in my amp. Not the first time I've done this to this amp either but I think I killed it by SWEAT dripping from my forehead as I was working on it. It smoked a few more transistors in the amp section for no reason. I looked and saw some drops of SWEAT and said SH*T, (*&@ @(&@@!!!! damn it to he!! etc etc! The thing was working fine with 3 mosfet transistors missing until I tried to fix it in the HOT DARK night!

Anyway, I'll order the parts to fix it I guess. But I would like a more updated and more efficient amp (this one DIMS my headlights on bass notes and I only have ONE speaker).

I need about 400 watts RMS. I'd like another Fozgate amp but I'd like opinions on the "best bang for the buck" if anyone would care to share.

Well today I was lazy and bought a new amp until I decide to fix my outdated, 10 yr old technolodgy, Hi Phonics amp. It's been soldered on so many times I'm about to let it go this time.

I went to a local Car Audio store looked at some amps and got a Kenwood 460 Watt RMS amp and since I just wanted it to install myself I got him to lower the price down to $200. It seems to do the job. I'm sure it could blow my HE sub. This one also has a cooling fan on it so I don't have to add one like I have had to before.

I didn't take it apart yet (like I usually do) to see how accessable it would be to fix. I asked the salesman if they had any "cut aways" of their amps so I could see the insides but he didn't. Oh well. Hope I don't have to fix this one any time soon.
