Subject: Subs in doors on QC
IP: Logged

Message:
Has anyone installed subs in the rear doors of a Quad Cab? I haven't taken off the door skins yet but there looks like there could be a lot of room in there. Are there any issues with this? One might be amp placement. I have room under the driver seat. Is this OK?

Thanks.

The audio shop did this in an s-10 and it sounded awesome. They were talking about putting two
6 1/2 inch rockford fosgates in the rear doors. They said they would stick out through the front of the doors (be visable) and we would have to dynomat the inside, put foam around the speaker and probably seal the door skins to stop rattle and annoyin vibrations. Make no mistake I heard these in a bandpass box and they are loud. Hope this helps.

There's not as much room as might appear, but that's not to say it can't be done depending on the size of speaker you plan to install. You'd probably have to take out a lot of metal and write off the notion of ever rolling the windows down again if you go over the factory cutout size.

One thing to watch for is I've found my rear exterior door handles vibrate a lot, and that's with just a single 10" sub behind the rear seat. Take dakstrat's advise and plan on putting some sound dampening materials in the doors.

Mounting an amp under the seat shouldn't be a problem as long as it fits. I've got mine under the passenger seat.

JustSomeGuy is right - there's not much room back there and window track gets in the way. Plus, trying to sound deaded the doors would a huge pain. It would much easier to drop a pair of 8"s behind the rear seats or a single 8" or 10" behind the console on the floor (that's whay I did, see website linked below).
