Subject: crossover? what?
IP: Logged

Message:
Hello, im new to the sound part of my truck. I know that Sony is not the best, but thats what ive got, so here is my questions: I have a Sony CD player, Sony front replacement speakers, Sony rear replacement Speakers, a Sony 760 amp and two Sony 10" subs. If it helps, there all that xplode stuff. So, I am wanting the bass to come from the subs only, not from the speakers, and I want a set of tweeters, How do I do this? What is a cross over? Where do I hook the tweets to?

Any help is appretiated, thanx.

I'd also like to say that the amp is plugged in to the head unit where the RC plugs go to and the amp powers ONLY the Subs.

The crossover goes in between the tweeter and head unit and eliminates the bass. The tweeters need to be hooked up to the front channel of your stereo along with the door speakers. Most tweeters have built in crossovers or come with inline ones.

My suggestion to get a second amp and an active electronic crossover. Audio Control makes the best ones, but almost any kind will do. Take the RCA cables from the head up and feed them into the crossover, then take the low output and run it to you sub amp. Run the high output to your mid/high amp. This will split the bass BEFORE it gets amplified, this is called "bi-ampping" and is the best way to go - trust me. This way you can dial in more or less bass without blowing your mids to pieces, in addition it's easier to upgrade in the future.

Next replace your front speakers with some components - these will be a SET of mids, plus a custom passive crossover and a tweeter. Give a listen to the various kinds at the local stereo shop since tweeters come in soft and hard domes... find some YOU like.
