Subject: Removing center console?
IP: Logged

Message:
On a 2002 SXT (Auto Tranny), is there anything else that needs to be removed besides the visible screws and the 3 bolts under the single cup holder?

Have them all removed but the first half of the console doesn't seem to want to come free. The part next to the big storage area comes up a few inches, but I feel like if I pull any harder something is going to break.

Any help would be appreciated!

It should com off pretty easily. On mine it had a small place to put pens and such up in front of the cup holders, and it had a thin rubber insert in there. Under the rubber piece, there was a screw. I think there are two under the cup holder, and then there are 4 inside the console. It has a plastic insert at the bottom, and under that are the four screws in the console. Mine's a 2002 sport with auto tranny, so I'm not sure if they are the same, but thats how mine breaks down, hope this helps.

02CC is exactly right! There is also a electrical connector under there if you have the 12v adaptor inside the console! Just be sure to not yank it out before undoing that!

The top ridge of the center console will be the most difficult part. You need to put your Auto Tranny into the lowest gear to get the handle out of the way, and lower your steering wheel as low as possible. The top ridge needs to be pulled slightly down to dislodge from the dashboard. Its very tough to get it over the steering wheel without scratching your instrument cluster. Just take your time and go very slowly and remember that a little twisting never hurts so long as you aren't straining to do it. Watch those headlight snap-plugs and HVAC harnesses, they are fragile. Get a buddy to help you out with it, because you will need to remove clips on both sides before completely clearing the steering column, and that is very difficult with one person. If you need more help, you can simply call your dealer and they will tell you.

Mr. Sleepy is correct if your taking off the dash, but I think this post was referring to the center console. I know they are kinda close together, but I've found that the dash is easily distinguishable due to the gauges right in front of you, and I look for the following two features when searching for a center console.
1. CUPHOLDERS
2. A CONSOLE IN THE CENTER OF THE VEHICLE.

Oh Jeez.... 02CC is right... Wow guess I should get more sleep eh? I'll assume that you don't have a 4X4 shifter included in your console. I see to remember there being 3 screws. Two at the base near the seats and 1 near the top under the rubber matting. There might be "catches" on either side near the middle that need to be released, I believe they are slide catches. If you have a older model Dak, and there is a 4x4 shifter in the console then I can't help you, its been so long since ive removed one of those I couldn't give you good enough directions. But it can be done.
