Subject: Best fit for Head Unit? Full Size Unit?
IP: Logged

Message:
Does anyone have a full size head unit in their DAK? I am referring to the specially made units for GM/Chrysler. Such as the Pioneer DEH-P77 etc. I do not want to put one of the ugly spacers in my dash to put a DIN sized head unit in, I think they would detract from the dash. Crutchfield says that the '02 DAK's don't allow the fit of the oversized units. I think it could be fudged in and look better than one of the adapters. Please let me know if you have pics of a clean install or an idea of what will look good.
Thanks.

just installed the pioneer DEH-P47DH (gift
from santa) looks dope.

I have an 01 and the unit fits perfect, the only
thing is the stock unit has rounded corners,
and the pioneer doesnt, but man does it make
a difference in sound quality. (Hope to add
thunderform/amp next!)

good luck. I think Best Buy had a deal on the
pioneer, so call them, or check online. good
luck!

I am wondering the same thing. I want a new unit, but am not in the market for new speakers yet till i blow them or get rich soon. The common since thing would to think the new deck makes the stock system sound x2 better, but just wanted some thoughts from people who did it. Thanks

Upgrading your stock deck is worth the $$, can make the crappiest speakers sound good at lower volumes. I have a Pioneer 7300 CD with stock paper cone infinity speakers and pioneer 10" sub, improvement in sound quality was HUGE but couldn't turn it up loud enough with the windows down and be clear so I upgraded to Infinity Kappas which fixed my "volume problem". I highly recommend installing a sub with aftermarket deck or you will get alot of distortion(depending on your settings) and eventually blow factory speakers running full range. They are not rated for high power head units and cannot withstand the speaker excursion and excessive heat generated from low frequency reproduction. If you are easy with the Bass, you can upgrade your system one component at at a time starting with Sub then some seperates, instead of New Head Unit and then 2 days later new speakers since you popped the factory speaks(been there done that).

D,
I just ordered the same unit for my 01. How did you take care of it not having the same corners as the stock one did? I want it to look good and not out of place. Any help would be appreciated.

Bill

I just got off the phone with crutchfield and they said there is no mounting kit to make the Pioneer 47 fit in the 01. He said there is nothing to hold the Pioneer in the slot with the rounded edges of the stock opening. I am pissed! NOw I have to return the damn thing. I sure wish D would respond and tell us how he got his to work.
