Which Metra Speaker Harness
IP: Logged

Message:
I travelled to Parts Express on the Web and they had several Metra speaker harnesses available for the Chrysler/Dodge. I ordered the 72-6512, but I'm not certain if that was the correct harness. Has anyone purchased Metra speaker harness before for their 2000 Dakota and know the right Metra Part no.?

Installation kit?
IP: Logged

Message:
Confusion reigns...

I purchased an Alpine CD-9807 receiver. I believe it is a DIN and 1/2 unit...My question is do I need an istallation kit? I eyed the factory stereo openong and looks to be larger than a DIN and a 1/2. Are the 2000 Dakotas equipped with 2 DIN or DIN and 1/2 receivers. If I do need an installation kit, what make and part number is recommended...

Thanks once more for your help as always...

David

David, I just installed an Alpine #9807 in my wifes Cherokee, it is what is called euro style. Yes you will need installation kit, go to the Crutchfield web site and they will have what you need, costs $10-$12.

Thanks, Emka...Received one from Crutchfield yesterday.

Opinions sought once more from the forum: what company makes the best speaker wire and RCA patch cables?

Thanks once more,

David

there all basically the same as speaker wire goes, just make sure you get a good gauge wire.

for rca wires, I use monster cables, but hear as long as they have good insulation and gold terminals there basically the same.

All speaker wire is pretty much the same, 16 to 12 gauge is fine, just make sure it's flexible (lots of thin strands). Some of the stuff they sell at Radio Shack and Home Depot (while cheap) is for home systems, it's very stiff and will be hard to work with. The factory wiring is fine for running you seperates, no need to fight trying to get wires thru your door jams, just splice (with the adaptor) at the factory radio location.

Most auto parts stores will have the terminals and connectors you'll need, just do not strip the wire and tape it together with duct tape or wire nuts please. Buy the right connectors and crimp them on so they will last. I like the male/female insulated (covered in plastic) kind since you can disconnect them later for troubleshooting or upgrades.

As far as RCA signal cables go I'm using Monster Cable as well. Do not get too cheap here, Stinger makes some good cables as well. Cheap cables will allow noise into the system, it's not how thick the insulation is but how it's designed that matters more.

Thanks once again to you both for your recommendations. I'm approaching the final straightaway in the purchasing area, so I hope to have things put together and installed in a few weeks....

Thanks again,

David
