I want to put a system in my 1999 Dodge Dakota R/T Club Cab. I have removed the back seat. So I have the entire back to use, as I will probably need to build a wall. I want to spend $1,200-$2,000 total on the sytem. Gettting someone to hook it up and build the custom box will run around $300. What stereo, subs, amps, highs/mids, wiring should I get? Audiobahan, JL, Phoenix Gold, etc. ????? I have never built a sytem before so any advise would be helpful Thanks!

JL Audio W3's or higher for some good subs that will hit hard. Rockford fosgate HX2's are good too. Kenwood, Alpine, or clarion are a few good head units. Infinity, Kenwood, Eclipse, are all good brands for mids and highs. I just put a kenwood Head unit in my dak, and I have 2 RF HX2's on the way. I'm using a Sony amp for the mids and highs, and I have a 1000w kenwood for the subs.

Might as well ask what color to paint your truck... you'll get tons of opinons. I think you should do some research first to help narrow down your selections. Personally I use Clarion, Audio Control, HiFonics, Infinity and Kicker.

If you want a good Head unit go with a Kenwood or Eclipse. As far as amps Kicker,Memphis, Fosgate are all good. Stay away from Sony period. Most of their stuff is junk. I wouldn't waste my hard earned money on any thing that sais sony on it. Good luck with the system & installition.

Alpine makes good decks i have the 7893,a far as the subs crossfire bmf's are good and alpine type r's and fosgates, and can't forget jl's.I have 4 fosgate Hx2 15's on the way and i'll be pushing that with 2 memphis 1500d's,but right now i have 2 fosgate he 15's and a fosgate 500s and it hits pretty hard sounds better than the 2 jl w0's i had before with a 500 watt amp,i have also had a 1000 watt amp and 2 alpine type r12's,I've had alot of systems and alot of diferent sizes and brands of subs, first of all 2 grand isn't a hole lot to work with, because just for the head unit you'll be spending around 400 for a good one,and the mid/highs around the same price and that with the wiring is a 1000 easy.My amps alone are 2 grand, what size subs are you getting?look around i got offered 8 10's for $300 sometimes bigger isn't always better but it does take more to get as loud, just take your time and get what you want,i have had 12's that are way louder than 15's with less power pushing them, but it is all in the box not just the subs. There's lots of guys here that know alot about subs and amps.i have a memphis 1500d for sale, its blown but like $40 to have memphis fix it,if you want it make an offer, there great amps and like $1100 new.

Check out the Pioneer DEH-P77DH head unit. Lots of useful features and it fits in the dash correclty without looking out of place since it's a 1 1/2 din size unit. I'v had one for 6 months and realy like the SQ and features.

I am also running a Pioneer P680 changer that's been flawless, RF 301S sub amp, RF XLC (older) 10" subs and an Orion 465 amp. I went with Infinity 605CS components F&R and the sound from everything is realy clean. Loud too, but that wasn't my main goal in building the system.

JMII is right, spend some time and figure out what you like, everyone has different tastes. Stereo shop B might say brand X is the best while stereo shop B says brand Z is the best.

My entire system was about $800 for HU, changer, amps, speakers and misc wiring, not including the subs I had in the closet. HU and changer from Etronics, amps and speakers off Ebay, wiring from Walley World (don't laugh, their amp wiring kits/RCA's are deicient quality at a smokin price).

For deck, i would go with alpine cda-9833. Its a great deck, with internal crossovers and the whole ten yards.
Subs, depending on what sound you want, go with alpine as well. The type r's put out great sound, just make sure you get an amp that doesn't under power them. a 1000 watt amp should be sufficient for two. i prefer 10's myself, they sound better.
If you only have $2000, you probably will have to skip out on cd changer, but they are great to have. component speakers are also a must, they give out great sound quality, and that should be a great system. Good luck man, and maybe try to build a custom box to save a little $$$, its not that hard to do, there are lots of nice people that can give you instructions on how to do it, if your making it out of mdf or fiberglass.

You can easily build a more than decent system for $2000. Anyone that cant is a spoiled fool that hasnt had to work hard enough for their money.

First off shop online, ebay..You can find brand new stuff for cheap..and everyone knows stores warranties are a rip anyway, so no loss there.

As far as wiring..try Wal*Mart, Lowe's, Home Depot..anywhere that has Cable by the foot. Steer clear of overpriced, overrated Monster/Rockford wiring kits too.
