I dont want to get into competition nor am i interested in playing mp3's. What is an average cd player that i can get that doesnt suck but wont cost me tons of cash. Is any brand better then another? Im completely new to sound systems so flame away if i sound like an idiot.

I put an Eclipse deck in mine, and I am more than happy with the sound. I had a Pioneer in my last truck and it never sounded as clean as the Eclipse. And the $200 Eclipse deck my friend has sounds just as nice as my $400 deck sucks but I wont lie about it. Only down side is that the Eclipse dosnt offer a removable face plate, istead they use a ESN(Electronic Serial Number) for hopeful protection against theft. If you program a CD in to you deck as a cd key and then the power to the deck is disconected(some one jackin you Shiz) the deck wont opperate with out the correct cd put into it, just dont leave the cd key in the truck. I dont know how big a deturant that ESN is but I havent had my junk snatched yet.

My $0.02

Alpine CDA7892. Chose it instead of the 7893 because of the all-black face. Didn't want the silver to yell "steal me" to thieves. It's down to about $249 now. Sounds great, fit's nice. Make sure you get rid of those crappy stock speakers while you're at it.

If your going to be adding stuff later make sure to get a deck that has pre-amp RCA outputs - hopefully with a high voltage/signal level too (4 volts is good).

Any big brand name deck in the $200-$300 range will be fine. I chose Clarion because of how it interfaced with thier EQs and processors so easily plus it had a remote control and cool display (OK I'm sucker for that crap)

The order you put stuff in does not matter really... you just need to design a "system" ahead of time so you can buy the right stuff and not make costly mistakes. For example the ohms of the sub you get will depend on what your amp can drive or the other way around if you pick the amp first. Then just fill the pieces as you get the money. Figure around $800-1,000 total (or $400-800 with used stuff) - this will get you a nice deck, seperates/components up front, a decent 4 channel amp with a built-in crossover (important!) and one or two 8" or 10"s subs depending on how much "boom" you want - that all you'll really need.

Installation can be done yourself if your willing to learn and not afraid to take things apart and can follow directions carefully. Figure another $100-150 for wires and materials or who knows how much if you pay a shop to do it. I've always done installs myself and made plenty of mistakes - best to ask first before something catches fire or is not compatible with the other things your installing.
