Hi, I just bought a brand new 2003 Quad Cab Dodage Dakota. Upgrade from my 99 Chevy Malibu! Now currently i have a Kicker 12" Solo-Baric sub (Not in a box yet). I was wondering what you think is the best way to put it in. Have a box sitting in the back seat? Create a custom one? And where should I put it if it is a custom one.

Thanks for your help

Chris

I'm in the process of a 200 quad cab install. You should have a good shop build a custom box taht fits on the hump behind the center console. I'm having one done this week and should have pics in a week.

email me and I'll send them. jcahak@juno.com

Working on a system for a 01 QC. Space is tight so creativeness is a must. Just installed a pair of apline compentent in the front and coaxial in the rear.

Got some good ideas from here about mounting an amp under the seat but someone mentioned having to make kick panels, but the moving seats exposed the amp. Next best choice, I suspended amp under seat with sheet metal and rivets so everything move as one unit. Worked out so good i mounted a equalizor unit under the center seat.

Next task is making a sub box that sits on the hump between the rear seats. I really like the idea of the kicker S8L7 square sub to fit in a box between the seats.

Question: Is it better to have the sub firing out to one side or firing down towards the floor. If towards the floor is the better sub position how much clearance space is recommended between the sub and the floor to get a good sound?

I was also checking out the custom sub someone had made with 2 10' subs in custom fabed box in the center split seat that looked clean. Someone mentioned that there was wood that when it got wet it becomes moldible like a "noodle" and you can form it - like in the center console custom job. What kind of wood is it? and where can you buy it at?

If anyone has pictures of a box made to fit on the hump between the rear seats and have pictures of it please send it to

I'm doing the behind the center console on the hump thing with an S8L5 firing down. I put amps and DSP unit behind the rear seats - it was the only place they would fit, under the seats was too small! Pictures are at web site linked below:

JUST CURIOUS IF ANYONE ELSE HAS TRIED THIS---- I HAVE AN '02 QUAD CAB WITH THE 60/40 SPLIT REAR BENCH; I HAVE BEEN THINKING OF TAKING OUT THE 60 AND HAVING TWO 40'S WITH A CENTER CONSOLE/SUB BOX IN BETWEEN. THE ONLY THING I DON'T KNOW ABOUT IS THE MOUNTING OF THE NEW 40 ON THE LEFT SIDE.

STEVE003 - the problem is the way the mounting bracket for the seats works. You could do, but it would require modifing the seat brackets and/or the floor of the truck back there. If you look closely at the pictures on my web site (linked above) you'll see the brackets and the places where they rest on the floor of the truck along with bolts sticking UP that align them.
I think someone else was going to try that approach - it's a good idea, but would be tricky to pull off I think unless your good with metal working stuff/tools.
