Subject: i think i shorted somthing

i was recntly trying to put a head unit in my 02 r/t it did not go as planned nothing happened so i took it back out. i didnt have time to put my other radio back in yet and now i have no light in my truck. could i have touch two wires or somthing and shorted somthing out how do i fix this also my guages act up right when i start it then are fine

Check the fuse panel for blown fuses... and cap any exposed wires that are still in the dash or you'll just keep shorting stuff out.

If it shorted, that means that you had a power wire come in contact with the ground lead or bare metal behind the radio (that's why you should always remove the + terminal of your battery when doing electrical stuff). When that happens, it just blows the fuse that the power is run through. Check you owners manual to see if it lists one for the radio. If it doesn't--which is normal, I have found--check for the dome light fuse. I know these trucks have 3 or so fuses that could have blown. One is under the hood--well, that's where it was when I blew it on my '93.
