After only a few months (and two repairs), I find I have to trash my Infinity Kappa 5-ch amp.

I'm planning on two Profile Clarus-series amps (50 x 4 and 300 x 1 - or maybe bridge a 2-ch).

Who has any first-hand experience with these amps? Are they reliable? I'm not looking for a full-blown competition system, merely a clear, tight system that will sound great INSIDE the cab.

The Infinity DID sound great.... when it worked, but it blew an internal crossover, then dumped the left-rear channel altogether.

Is it any wonder that the big "I" no longer is involved with the developement of anything but SPEAKERS?

Why Profile amps? Have you considered shopping around on Ebay? There are a lot of good amps for a cheap price.

Well.....

eBay = no warranty, and I've already had to have the Infinity repaired twice.

I'm thinking Profile because I bought the Infinity through Crutchfield, and they won't refund $$$$ (only catalog credit), so I'm stuck buying whatever they have available.

They have lotsa higher-end amps (MTX,Rockford Fostgate, etc.), but I'd like to keep the cost to what I paid for the Infinity ($400.00).

I have purchased a lot of items of ebay that are brand new in the box. Get off of Crutchfield they are expensive, try surfing the web. There are hundreds of companies with returns policies that offer products for much less. Biggest bang for the buck is MTX, try one of their 4 channel amps to power your whole system. There amps are very under rated, they can usuelly produce twice the power that they claim on the box. I currently have a MTX 6500D amp that claims 250 watts but their test sheet shows it to makes 578 watts. Need help on finding an amp email me and I can point you to a couple of websites.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a Profile amp... but that's just me.

Use the credit to buy something else from Crutchfield and then go to http://www.digitalwavez.com to buy an MTX amp... they got some of the best prices on the web for amps and speakers... and for the money MTX is rockin'!

I agree Profile amps are not worth the money. They just aren't very strong. At least look around and get an amp that is well known. Spend an extra $50 - $100 and you will get an investment that lasts for several years.

Here's my 2cents.......

First off Profile is average at best.

As far as amps are concerned theres really only a few Brands to consider as far as a quality product for a decent price.
Soundstream
Phoenix Gold
Precision Power

Now I've done tons of research on the best and most reputible places to shop online for car audio and here are my results in no order

Crutchfield.com-Best customer service in the industry, same prices as retail stores, No high end car audio

Sounddomain.com-good customer service, prices are retail but the will price match most other online sites, they carry a ton of brands including high end

thezeb.com-good customer service, extremely low prices plus they also price match other online sites, tons of high end car audio

I am sorry, but I have to say that profile amps are very good quality amps. And the prices for their amps cant be beat. I have six 12" Polk audio subs in my truck and I run three 600msx amps made from profile that I only paid $120.00
for each of them and I have won four car stereo competitions with them in the last five months.
I think people need to do their homework before they lead you in the wrong direction.

Check out Nexxon.com. Their stuff is some of the cheapest I've seen on the web.

I have had the same Profile Amp in my trucks (3) for over 9 years now, and it still works perfectly. Never had any problems with it. 4channel x 75 watts. Dogs and kids have not been kind to the amp and have stepped on it and shook wet and muddy, still works great. HOWEVER, I do believe that the QUALITY of the sound could be better with the higher end amps. It depends on what you drive and how well your ears percieve tonal differences. Mine are shot. Honda's run a very long time but a BMW is a better ride, although it costs more too. It's all give and take

I agree. I've got 2 kenwood typhoon 400watt RMS powered by a Profile California AP2000 320watt RMS X 2 and it pounds. My subs are ported but I'm going to test them out sealed just to see what they're like. Yea this thread is old as hell and I found it on a search engine but I thought I'd give my input. I hear no problems with the sound quality at all.
