Message:
Last night I tried putting my Kenwood deck into my 01 Dogdge Dakota.. WOW WHAT A PAIN... the dash has got to be the dumbest thing. Anyways, if I hook the remote wire of my amp to the remote wire of the Dakotas internal amp, can I get both amps working without the purchase of the other wiring harness.
I only get my rear subs working on CD but when I turn it to radio all of the speakers work?? Why.

Any help will do thanks

Also I'm sure I screwed something up. When I start my truck the odometer now reads NO BUS... WHY? None of my gauges work either? What did I do and how do I fix it. I'm stumped.
Please Help ME!

I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota 3.9L

THANKS IN ADVANCE

Sounds like a power antenna issue...do you have one???? when you power the radio the antenna goes up and your internal amp comes on...problem is when you play a cd there is no need for the antenna so only your aftermarket amp turns on.......you need a remote wire from your headunit going to both amps for them to turn on at all times when you power the headunit...hope this helps.....

Dustin...Your Kenwood deck has 2 types of remote turn-on outputs. You have a solid blue wire & a blue wire with a white stripe on it. The solid blue is to trigger a power antenna for the radio. When you play a CD, this output shuts off (if you had an electric antenna, it would lower itself when you play CDs & raise itself when the radio is selected as a source). The blue wire with a white stripe has voltage present regardless of the source (radio, disc, etc.) The reason you only hear subs when playing a CD is because you have the factory amp remote wire connected to your Kenwood's power antenna remote wire. When the CD is playing, only your sub amp is turning on. Connect your sub amp's remote on lead together with the factory amp remote lead, then connect them both to the blue wire with the white stripe from the Kenwood deck. Don't connect anything to the solid blue power antenna remote lead. But be sure to insulate the end. If it touches the chassis of your deck or chassis ground in the dash, it may burn out the remote outputs on the Kenwood. This way both the OEM Infinity amp & your sub amp will trigger no matter what source you select. If you used an aftermarket harness to install your deck, it will also have a blue wire with a white stripe to connect to the remote-on output. Just match the colors, it's an easy fix. If you did not use an aftermarket harness in your installation, pull the deck back out & take a look at the black plug that was originally plugged into the factory radio. There is a single row of about 7 wire connections on the plug. 6 of these are speaker outputs (in your case they are speaker-level inputs to the OEM amp). The OEM amp trigger is at one end or the other on the black plug. I remember the trigger wire being green with a black stripe, but the color may have changed since my installer days. You can also take a look at the OEM radio & check it for a wiring diagram. Some OE radios have them, some don't. If yours has a diagram, look for the wire labeled "Amplifier Feed" or something to that effect. This is the remote-on wire for the OE amp. Connect it to the remote-on lead from your Kenwood to trigger the amp.

As far as the "No Bus" dtc & having no gauges, first fix your radio wiring & make sure you tape up/cap off/insulate all the wires you do not use in the radio installation. The accessory & continuous 12 volt + wires are at the left end of the gray plug that came out of the OE radio. (I remember these as red for accessory & red/white for continuous?) Use a voltmeter (NOT A TESTLIGHT) and check these for their respective voltages. You may have a few unused wires from the factory radio wiring harness, with Dodge/Chrysler these are usually tied into the illumination (dash lights circuits). If memory serves me, the OE radio illumination wire is orange/black stripe. This wire lights up the factory radio when the parking lights and/or headlights are turned on. There is also a rheostat (dimmer) lead in there too. This wire has varying voltage according to the position of the dash light dimmer control. Dodges are really funny about anything being connected to their factory illumination circuits, especially ground wires. If you inadvertently connected the ground wire for your Kenwood deck to one of the OE illumination wires, or the wire is bare & grounding out in the dash or on the chassis of the Kenwood, there is a possibility that it is causing your gauge/DTC error. There should have been a 14-16 gauage wire connected to the back of the factory radio with a female spade connector. This is the wire to use for ground on your Kenwood. But ground the Kenwood to a good solid chassis ground if you get unwanted side effects like blinking backlighting or motorboating in the speakers. Ideally, you should ground your sub amp, full-range amp and source unit at the same point. If I remember correctly, the factory ground wire for the OE radio is black with a green stripe. After you are sure the radio is wired correctly, check all the fuses in the interior fuse box & the fuse box under the hood. You may just have a blown fuse. Pay special attention to any fuse marked "Illumination", "Gauges" or "Cluster". If you do have a blown fuse, replace it with a fuse of the same amperage rating. If your gauges return to normal & the "No Bus" dtc clears, great. If not, have someone scan the computer for the source of the problem. If that doesn't help, your best bet is to take your truck to the dealer so they can figure it out. But reinstall the factory radio & remove your subs & sub amp first. Try to make it look like you never took anything apart or put anything in the truck. If they can find any evidence that your installation caused the problem, they most likely will not cover the repair under warranty.

Hope this helps...

when you took out the factory radio, chances are there was a one-wire connector (I think the wire is brown with a yellow stripe) that you didn't use for the new head unit. This wire is for the J1850 bus, which is the communication line for all of the electronic modules in the vehicle, which includes the instrument cluster. I'll bet $10 and a box of donuts that this wire is shorted to ground. Pull the radio out and check for that wire.

"I only get my rear subs working on CD but when I turn it to radio all of the speakers work?? Why. "

Does the Kenwood head unit have both a "remote" and "Power antenna" wire? A lot of aftermarket decks turn the "Power antenna" wire OFF when the deck is not in AM or FM mode. Make sure you're using the "remote" wire.

Help!

Message:
Hi there,
I recently purchased a new CD player to swap with my stock tape deck in my 1994 Dakota (4wd).

A friend of mine is trying helping me hook it up.
Can someone please help me?

All of our speaker wires are hooked up.
Now comes the problem. All that is left to hook up on the new harness is the Red-Accessory, Yellow-Memory, but on the old harness the wires that are left are,
Pink-(Power mirror switch, Glove box lamp, Overhead Console)
Red/White- (Ignition Switch)
Orange-(Headlamp Switch)
Black/Yellow -(Headlamp Switch)
Green/Red-(Speaker Relay)

The old wiring descriptions above are from the Wiring Harness Diagram given to me from a dealer.

Does anyone know what gets connected to what?

Please help me. I have been without a stereo for almost a week now.

Thanks
