hey everybody.

just put in some mbquart components in the front of my club cab, but the back still sounds like poop.

the fronts sound amazing, but they arent as loud when all 4 speakers are on. I imagine it takes more power to run the mb quarts as opposed to the factory paper speakers, making the rears seem louder.

Wondering if anyone knows anywhere that sells mbquarts that isnt too expensive. I need to get some back speakers.

Im running these off of the alpine 7894 for now. not sure if ill really need an amp (60w head unit)

Let me know what y'all think, in respect to an amp, and any other speaker brand suggestions to match up with the mb quarts in the front.

thanks.

Try www.nexxon.com The owner is Dave he's pretty cool. I would try getting a small 2 channel amp to run the fronts first and leave the rears running off the deck. When you get those components on an amp they really come to life.

Dude, I just picked up the Alpine 7894 and 2 sets of the MB Quart DSD 216 component sets for my truck. I should have them installed soon. Sounds like I'll enjoy this setup...

Why would you buy component speakers and not get an amp for them? You won't get their full potential with out one. I have a durango with only front comps and subs...it gets plenty loud. Your cab is much smaller than mine, of course my focal comps are driven with 100W rms from my class-T Blaupunkt. Why spend the money on more comps if they will only screw up your imaging? Home audio only uses the front channels for a reason...IMAGING! I have the same radio...use the time correction to get your imaging set. It makes a big difference. When you listen to a song you should be able to place each instrament on the stage. Put the money you save to subs. They don't have to be these monsterous things that take up space, a simple 8" or 10" under the back bench will add fullness to the sound. I have heard that if you get some nice 6.5" midbass and put them in place of the rear speaks it will do the trick, but they must be sealed (get those foam baffles and coat them in fiberglass). One such speaker is the digital design 6.5" (DD6.5, i belive). Focal makes the 5WS, a kick but 5 3/8" sub for a ported .4ft^3 box.

Recap: Get an amp(s) for the fronts and rear, then get some midbass/subs for rear.

Good luck and let me know if you have questions,
Nate

silver d,

i know i eventually want to get an amp and some sort of bass. im not all about rap or hip hop or anything, i listen to punk rock / indie / hardcore, and i feel that i have a damn good ear for sound. so i want something that sounds good and full. since i could just put another pair of components in the rear, (the same mb quarts) would you suggest that?

also, i know all the bad shizznit talked about the thunderforms, but i dont want some killer loud system, i just want some nice sounding, rather loud system, and the cost difference to "settle" for a thunderform rather than a jl stealth box is overwhelming.

i feel i could get a better sound for what i want it for - out of the two 10" thunderform rather than the jl

(note that i want something not visible, as i use my back seat(if you can call it that) daily.)

let me know what you think.

and i wish i could afford focals. dont we all.

maybe once i start working. i am currently a starving grad student and this is where all my excess money goes to.

The other set of MB's will make it louder, but you will loose those the imaging which makes the music sound real. Although you do have time correction which would help. A single amped set of comps will be louder than an un amped set and will have more dynamic headroom to give the music more authority and attack. Do a comparison, wire the factory speaks up in the rear. This is only temp, so just run the wires accross the interior. Then fade them out and fade them in when listening to some music you are familiar with. I have factory rears wire to headunit so I can have them on if I want...I never do!
If I were you this is what I would do, which is much like I did in my durango:
HU: alpine cda-7894 (you have)
Front: MB comps (you have)
rear: (6.5" midbass sealed crossovered at 80HZ with radio)
front/rear amp: about 80w rms x 4 if rears are used and 80W rms x2 if no rears. Check out Blaupunkt T-class small size and very little heat.
Subs: Thunderform without amp and without speaks, then put in IDQ subs and mono amp (JBL 600.1)

If money is an issue then don't use rear midbass, and only get 2 channel amp.

Let me know if you have any more questions,
Nate
