Subject: Where do I place my amps?
IP: Logged

Message:
I've been trying to decide what equipment to put in my 98 dakota club cab. I already have two amps (an ESX Q-175/2 and an Autotek SS-475). I intend to put a thunderform box with two IDQ 10's under the rear seat, using the ESX amp to power them. I have Polk MM-465 6-1/2 components for the fronts and I intend to pick up 6-1/2 two-ways for the rear. I will be using the SS-475 to power these. (The receiver is a Premier DEH-p840mp, in case you care)
The problem is that I don't know where to place the amps. They don't seem to fit under the front seats and the thunderform takes up the entire rear seat.
I don't know if this is a good idea, but there seems to be plenty of room on the floor between the driver and passenger seats up front for at least one amp. (I would need some kind of amp cover.)
Should I find a good five-channel amp instead of using the two I already have?
Anyway, I need some advice. If anyone knows where I should put them, please let me know. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated since I've never installed anything before.

unless you plan on some major modification, the amps will not fit in the space where the console is.....your best bet is to either a)put them on the back seat floor, or b) a little more envolved.....but if you take out the back interior panel(where the rear speaker is), you can mount it to that wall...make sure it's insulated form the wall though....there's a couple of inches of unused depth there that you could use...it's about 13.5X 27 if i recall correctly...more than enough to ount an amp...

There are amps that fit under the seats. I used the Thunderform on my 99 Dakota Club and had a 2 channel amp under one seat for the subs and a four channel under the other seat for the components. Make sure the amp under the drivers side is mounted sideways though so it doesn't get rubbed by the seat when it moves. Alpine Amps fit well there are others.

I seems that my 4-channel amp will fit under the passenger side seat if I put a couple of washers under the seat to raise it about a half inch. My sub amp, however, is significantly taller and I don't think that will work. Neither amp seems small enough to be mounted transversely under either seat.
If anyone can give me specific model numbers of either a two channel amp that will fit and can drive two IDQ 10's or a powerful 5-channel amp with a dedicated sub channel I would appreciate it.
