Subject: 92 3.9 misfire IP: Logged
Message: My 92 3.9 5 speed has 117K miles and developed a misfire and power loss while driving.
I changed plugs, wires, rotor, cap, coil and no change. Compression on all cylinders 160-170.
If I rev it up while parked, it will pop.
What more can I do?

Message: 1st i would check the timing and make sure thats ok. 2 other things that can cause your problem are a weak coil or low fuel pressure (ie clogged fuel filter).

Message: These kind of problems always have a stupid solution. I would check for the simplest things first before i spend any more money. When my truck acted up like that, it was because of the coil. When I added the Jet chip, it aggrevated the popping and misfiring. Since you have already changed the coil, I would test to see if you have fuel pressure by taking the cap off of the fuel rail and pushing the needle like a bicycle intertube.

Message: If the truck runs at all he definitely has fuel pressure and gas will spray out of the schrader valve when you press it. You would need to hook up a gauge and make sure you have the right pressures at idle (38-44psi i think), fast idle, and with the engine racing. My guess would be that the coil is going bad with that many miles on it.

Message: I did previously change the coil. Today I changed the fuel filter and I removed all the fuel injectors. I applied power to each fuel injector and they opened with a clicking sound. I cleaned them and blew compressed air through each one. After all that the engine still had had a misfire. - Dan

Message: Any other ideas on this thing? It also pops - like the timing is off. I have the non-adjustable distributor.
I have an appointment with the Dodge Dealership on Friday - I hate to admit defeat. Electronic??

Message: Do you have any trouble codes? If so What?
I would check the crank trigger just as 1flameddak stated.
Check you coil too. Get the manual for your veh if you dont already have it.
Good luck Steven

Message: I got it going. After cleaning the fuel injectors, I put premium gas in it and dry gas and lt it sit a day. After work It ran better, so I drove it and filled it with premium. I figure that I had bad gas or someone put something into my gas.

Message: Check your crankshaft position sensor. Could be
the wrong one if changed or changed before you
got. Dodges especially the 3.9 are very picky
about the crank sensor being aftermarket and not
stock. Also when the sensor is tightened all the
way down do you hear the fly wheel hitting
anything. If so there is your miss fire the sensor
can't read the gaps in the flywheel teeth and
ritculater ring if it's to close and rubbing. It
messes with the fuel and ignition timing.you could
try shimming the censor with home made washers out
of an aluminum can. Any other metal washers will
mess with the magnetic signal
