I have a 1990 dodge dakota sport 4X4 and wanted to know what it has for horsepower and what I would get out of headers and dual exhuast, what kind of performance chip seems to work best with this type of set up? and what would max horse power be with these two add ons.

I don't know about performance chips but with the dual exhaust and a good set of FlowMasters. The truck will sound like a bumblebee with a hard-on, but it will run like a shot cat. Does that help any

I want to say stock was 175HP though I am not 100% sure at the moment. I do have my 88 FSM and sales brochures at home and I know it is in there. I will check tonight and reply back with that answer.

As far as a chip, I know that JET used to make one at one point but I was under the impression that they discontinued it. I haven't checked into it myself. I don't know of any others.

I have a set of Pacesetter headers on my Dakota, a custom y-pipe into a 3" high flow cat and then a 3-chambered flowmaster muffler with two 2-1/2" outlets straight out the back. My truck sounds great, doesn't sound tinny or like a bumblebee and I have been told many times that it sounds like a V8. Only complaint is I feel it's a little too open and I lost some low-end torque. If you find yourself a good exhaust shop that does custom work, talk with them and they will tell you your best option.

My 88 FSM lists it as 125hp. It's a pre-magnum 3.9 EFI and I would assume a 90 is in the same ball park. I think the Magnum 3.9 is 175hp.
