Does anyone have the resorce or knowledge of a company that makes a lift kit for the 2000 dakota 4 x 4? Or that a company has one in the works.
I am trying to find alot of accessories with little or no luck, 1) wilderness roof rack the fit the club cab, 2) full length running boards from front wheel to rear wheel, (not nerf) straight tubes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
emails: jbjewelers@ispchannel.com
steel35@webtv.net
both emails will get to me.
Thanks Eric

I know that Rancho makes a 3" Suspension lift with the RSX shocks. Central Fourwheel Drive in Sacramento, CA carries it. Also I read somewhere that Trail Master has a 4" suspension lift in a Four Wheel Parts Wholesale Magazine.

Someone had mentioned that they didn't release them yet (had to do with the brake porportioning valve). Don't know for sure if this is still true though.

Hey guys. New user here. There is a better lift out there for 97-00. I think the '01 would be the same. It is by a company called "Tuff Country". It is a 5.5" lift. I have heard only good things about them, and when I save up enough dough, that will be the one I get. Also, Fabtech said they are developing a lift for 4x4 dakotas.

I have been to a large number of Off-Road shops in my area, and all they say is don't get the Tuff Country Lift. I don't know if they are lying do to them being authorized skyjacker dealers or if it is true. They tell me they did one for a guy and it just about tore his front end apart. Let me remind you all these dealers are very well known for doing good jobs. Just thought you'd all like to know.

THE DEAL!!!
as a 2000, 4x4 dak owner, i would love nothing more thasn to lift my baby, but there is NO LIFT for them! First off, i've fully investigated everything about the lift. I've actually talked to the technicians at tuff country and skyjacker. Tuff country makes the 5.5" lift up to '99 but then in 2000 the dodge guys switched to rack and pinion steering, plus they changed abourt 80% of the front end brackets. Now this causes everything in the front end to ru8n into other crucial parts once lifted. (the drive shaft being one of them) anyway, tuff country said they will not be realeasing a lift period. BUT WAIT! the guys at skyjacker said they are working on their first lift to fit the '00 and '01 dakota, but it's gonna be a while. they're hoping for 4-6" of lift...nevertheless, a lot of techies said that someone will make a lift, just takes time...so everyone be patient! And to answer jessica's q, 31's look great and they're the biggest you can go w/o rubbing. slap on some 31x10.50x15 BFG mud terrains and you'll love it. Mine looks sweeet, and i've even second guessed trying to lift it and loose all the speed and factory suspension warranty. anyway...that's the deal..good lusk. ~jesse

A company called bullseye is producing a spindle lift for the dakota. Seems that the company wanted to make sure that the front ends would all work with the new spindles. If anyone knows spindles, Then you know that spindles are the best way to lift or lower a vehicle. They are working on them as we speak. My friend owns a 4X4 specialty store and he will let me know when they are out. He says soon.

Just to let you all know...

The Tuff Country is for 97-99 as someone had mentioned. List price is ~$1300. The Dakota Mailing List had a group buy a while ago for $1081. I'm not sure if they are still honoring that or not. Rancho's kit is a 3 inch, also for 97-99. That one list I think around $1100 if I remember right. I have been warned by shops about the Tuff Country as well, however, there are ways to beef up the kit. I just talked to Trailmaster, and they plan to release a 4 inch for 97-99 in "6-8 months." I'm not holding my breath, though as this is what they told about a year ago. So I know the rumor has been flying around out there in various circles about a Trailmaster kit, but it's false. So the TC and Rancho are the only two kits available as of now. Nothing for 00-01. Sorry. The other alternative is a body lift. This is a much less desirable option from both a looks and especially function stanpoint, but is MUCH less expensive (3 inches on a 97-99 is $150 for the best one out there).

One thing to note about the Tuff COuntry kit is, that unless you add bigger tires, you will actually lose ground clearance. This is because TC uses some dropped brackets as a lower "bump stop." It's not really a bump stop since it limits the lower travel of the suspension, but the idea is the same. I am planning to cut mine off and use limiting straps instead.

I know that body lifts aren't the greatest things around, but if you stay small are they okay? I would like to maybe put on a 2 inch one to give it a little meatier look. Full on suspension lifts are so expensive. Basically I am looking for any way to gain a inch or two without going broke. I would like to fit 32 inch tires. ANy help would be greatly appreciated.

Body lifts don't perform as well off road as suspension lifts do and I think they hurt the appearance of the truck some (just my opinion). They certainly are a less expensive way to go.

What year is your truck? This is what I know of the 97-99 4x4's:

If you're just looking to get 32's, you can put them on stock. You may have a little rub but not enough that I would worry about it. If it really bothers you, just crank the torsion bars for about 1" of lift (rear is fine). Some people object to this, but in my opinion, if you stay at about an inch or less, it's not a big deal. It'll roughen up your ride a bit, though. Noticeable, but nothing that will rattle a kidney loose or anything.

A 2 inch body lift will get you 32's no problem, but for the same cost, why not put on a 3 inch and get 33's. There are several people running this set up with no problems.

I recently purchased a 5.5 inch lift kit from tough country. It's the shit. For the money I paid for it you can't go wrong (1250$). I think you get more from your money with the tough country than that of the rancho. I installed the kit myself, wich I dont recommend to anyone who does not have the equipment or the patience, but after the job was done a mean looking truck was born. I have a question to anyone who can tell me how to get more horsepower? I already have the flow master exhaust, the K&N generation 2 filter charger kit, the chip deal, and I run my truck on premium gas, what else can I do?

The 32 inch tires will probably fit on my 2000 DAk. I have the 3.92 gears, will this ruin my mileage? On my old 93 explorer I went from a 235x75r15 to a 31x10.50 and had no rub, but power, and gas mileage went to hell. So with 3.92 and 32 should my mileage die? Also how would I go about cranking up my torsion bars? I know what they are but the actual cranking I dont know how to do?Thanks for any help, all you guys are a valuable resource.

Did mileage actually go down that bad, or was it your perceived mileage? With the bigger tires, your odometer would read fewer miles just as your speedometer registers a lower speed. I'm sure you lost some, but was it really that bad?

Thanks Griz, I didn't realize that. The speedometer deal I knew about, but the odometer I never thought of. Acceleration actually did get slower. I actually had a speeding ticket for my larger tires, 8 miles over. Too bad. Thanks.

I have spoken with every suspension company out there and so far no one makes a lift for 2000 & up because of the changes that have been mentioned earlier, Mainly the rack & pinion setup, but, Rancho says they are developing their 3in lift for the 2000 & up. No time frame as to when it will be out. Also, 32x11.50's will fit a stock 2000 4x4 on the factory rims with no lift and no rubbing, even at full flex. I have them (BFG's) on mine and my buddy has them on his(Dunlops).

my dealer stuffed a set of 33's on for me. with a 2" crank on the torsion bar, and a set of firmer shocks (rs6000's) it's just firm enough and looks very cool. It did require a little bit of trimming at the front wheel wells (which made it look even better) and will hold me till someone comes out with real suspension lift.

anyone put a set of headers on a 4.7 yet? just wondering what I could do to get back some acceleration..
