Subject: Rough idle/check engine light
IP: Logged

Message:
I've got a '93 3.9 V6. The thermostat locked up, and I overheated. After putting in a new thermostat, the engine can't seem to find idle, and the check engine light is on. The fault code (34) says speed control vacuum, but I can't find any vacuum leaks.

Tried replacing the coolant temp sensor, but it didn't help. The temp guage seems ok.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Followup (in hopes of saving someone else the hassle):

There are 2 coolant temp sensors. One for the guage, and one for the PCM that sits behind the thermostat housing. Turns out I had knocked the second one off, but I didn't realize there were 2, so I kept messing with the wrong one. The dealer plugged it back in for $78, and idle is back to normal.
