I have a 2000 Club Cab with the 4.7 and automatic.
I can figure out how much weight I can tow but can't find anywhere whether I need a hitch put on... I'm going to be moving a 15' fiberglass boat maybe twice this summer so I don't want to add a hitch if I don't have too.
So, does anyone know how much weight I can haul around on the bumper before I should look at adding a hitch? What kind of tongue weight it will take and weight I can safely pull/stop on it?
Any help would be appreciated!

Your bumper can pull 1000# max anything more
you would need a hitch installed. A hitch would be a better idea anyway because then the tongue
could be level on yuor trailer.

Usually the load ratings are stamped into the bumper somewere. I used to tow my 17' fiberglass powerboat with 125hp Mercury outboard on my RC Dakota's bumper. I wouldn't go any bigger on the back but if you are only towing a 15' boat, I don't think it would be a problem.

You need to research what the local laws are regarding towing. Also, I wouldn't exceed the stamped weight of the bumper either. Unless you know what your tongue weight is for your boat, don't assume anything. Find a scale or get the info from the boat/trailer manufacturer.

A hitch does not cost much and most of them will hide behind the bumper with only the receiver showing (that's the way my Draw-tite is). My hitch mounted to the frame and with a ball, mount and a Warn receiver shackle, only cost $230 installed. Not bad for the peace of mind and safety.
