Does a coldair intake like the QuickD make the engine notably louder? I want to add a cold air and high flow muffler to improve hp and mpg. I don't mind if it growls a little when I really hit the gas, but I don't want it too loud when I leave the house at 5:30. Anyone with some experience, please advise. Thanks!

Yes it does. Any aftermarket intake system will sound "louder" because the filter is now not enclosed inside that sound damepning factgory airbox.

If you don't nail it in the morning, it won't be any louder than stock. It's only when you're at 3/4 to WOT when it's noticeably louder.

Installing an after market exhaust is where you will have to worry about noise. To get any power increase, the low flow muffler is needed which increase sound quite a bit. Not a bad thing though.

Dynomax Mufflers are still pretty quiet at idle so the morning "fire up" won't be annoying. Keep the revs down in the AM when leaving and you won't have a problem.

As for the intake noise, again...unless your at WOT (or at least 3/4 throttle) you won't notice any louder than stock noise.

Thanks guys.

If it's the same in the morning and at regular highway cruising, I'm convinced . . .

Bernd -- is the Dynomax a good product? It's about the only one I can get locally.

The Dynomax SuperTurbo (2.5" IN / 2.5" OUT) will fit with the stock exhaust system and will work perfectly for you. (And a "V8 Sound" at idle to boot!) ;)

Bernd, you seem to know alot about everything!
I have a 2001 4.7L, and was considering ordering
the Gibson swept-side exhaust for my truck, but
I can also get the Dynomax locally. Is the Gibson
cat-back much better(performance and quality)?
If not, I'll go the cheaper route and have a
local shop install a Dynomax SuperTurbo.

Thanks.
