Since the 4.7 was used int eh Jeep family before the dakota I went to a Jeep dealer to ask about the milking foam.. he told me that since the engine came out it has had this problem even in the Jeeps.. I hope this will not effect the long life of the engine after 150,000 miles or more.. I want to keep this Quad Cab a lot longer...

I am still getting the gunk after the fix though not as bad as the original setup. My 4.7 was fine until the weather turned cold then the condensation started.

THAT STILL DOESN'T CURE THE PROBLEM COME NEXT WINTER . HAS ANYONE HEARD OF A REAL HONEST TO GOODNESS FIX ??? SINCE THE FIRST OIL CHANGE AT 500 MILES I HAVE USED CASTROL SYNTEC OIL .

Well, Chrysler really did it this time, I didn't have a problem with this white foam till winter time. I put in the parts recommended well guess what, its still happening, not as bad mind you, but the condensation is still there. Its building up on the parts that I installed. When is someone gonna wake up at Chrysler and rectify this problem. The baffle and oil cap are not gonna fix this problem. Not by a long shot! Does anyone have any suggestions!

I emailed this on the Chrysler Canada customer service web site.

Has anyone else gone this route and had any interesting/productive/disheartening responses.

Problem Description:
There is condensation in the Oil filler cap that runs back into the engine, why is there no fix for an issue that will unquestionably affect the longevity of the engine. Will Chrysler honor the warranty when the engine dies from being lubricated with water?

We have a few of the same trucks with the same problem.
I just got through a few years of problems with a 99 Ram knocking and pinging from the time I got it to the time I sold it. With all the software updates and MANY service calls no one was able to fix it.

This will be my last Dodge if I have a similar experience with this one. That from someone that has owned them from the 76 Ram Quad (which I still own) to the new 2002.

PLEASE help me get this fixed properly so I don’t have to sell it and replace it with something more reliable. I twist wrenches in my off time (otherwise I would never own a 76)and would even be willing to fix with aftermarket parts if you can suggest any and cover under warranty as everyone here that drives one believes you should.

Looking forward to hearing how you can help,

Its always AFTER I see these online posted problems
that I buy a vehicle! Got a 2003 Ram 1500 with 4.7
and during the second oil change at 6000 miles I noticed the underside of the cap, it was soaked with water. I called Sullivan Brothers Chrysler in Kingston Massachusetts service dept and they said it is common for the 4.7 because of the large oil cap, and it does not pose a problem for the motor.
It sounds like a line of bull to me! I will bring it in soon to log in the problem so when my engine starts rapping and smoking after 100k maybe they can replace it with another motor with a different major problem.
After getting screwed with a 99 Chevy Silverado
4.3 piston slap, see website http://gmpistonslap.tripod.com/
I thought I would be safe with a Dodge.

Your last post seems to be 1-29-03, I hope that means you have fixed the condensate problem. If not, check out this link. It makes sense to me. Please respond, I'm thinking of buying a 2000 Dakota 4.7L.

My father engine just went in his 2000 Dakota with 47,000 and no warranty coverage because he did his own oil changes and work on his truck.
Do not take the chance of no warranty coverage and document everything with a Dodge repair place. The problem seems to be across the board.
New engine needed and how are we gaurenteed anything better with a re-manufactured engine rom DODGE???? To the tun of 6,928.00 for the new engine and the cost of an extended warranty to BOOT!
