I've gotten into my 2003 Dodge Dakota Quad cab 4x4, and the
door locks are going on and off w, with no power on. I had to
put a new blower motor resistor in because the old quit. The
new one works sometime and not sometimes.

99 dodge Dakota SLT 3.9 extended cab

I think I know the solution to the PCM no bus
erro. My 99 was doing it like every 10 minutes.
Sometimes it would crank back up after cycling the
key 3 times. Other times more often then not I
would have to wiggle the connector on the PCM
closest to the fire wall. When I did my fuel pump
relay and add would come back to life. That worked
for about 3 months and then I have to start
hitting the PCM with a hammer lightly on the top
corner closet to the fire wall. Same thing would
happen all relays and fuel pump kick on. Until one
day it just wouldn't do it anymore my messing with
the harness or hitting it. So I bought a new PCM
for my truck (prolly remanufactured) and it ran
right for about 10 minutes after installing and
then it shut off. Cranked right back up strong but
a new issue developed. It ran like dog water. Like
on 2 to 4ish cylinders. The straight pipes I had
were shooting flames. Fast-forward to 2026 present
day and my 1992 3.9 Dakota crank sensor causes
random stall outs but cranks right back up. I
replaced the sensor and it started to run like how
my 99 did when I did the PCM. I got to thinking
that my crank sensor was wrong or bad in my 99 at
least for the PCM I put in. So I buy a different
PCM and it gets fried after first try cranking. So
I tried to give it power externaly to the PCM as a
sort of a bypass. I skipped the 12 v connector
going into the PCM and hop it up on the out side
part of the 12 volt reference where it turns to 5
volt to run the bus line. CANBUS system.i did that
with my cigarette lighter in the dash and a 5 volt
phone charger. It ran for a day like that and then
never cranked again so I sold it but I'm starting
to believe that a wrong or faulty crank sensor was
to blame for all the issues. Because I bought a oh
Rileys brand crank sensor for my 92 and it ran the
same way my 99 did unless I shimmed it further
away from the flywheel. But it would still miss
fire like ass around 3300 to 5000ish rpms. I put
the old one back in it runs like a dream again and
still shuts off sometimes but cranks back up every
time. My conclusion is that my 99 had the wrong
crank sensor from the start and was really putting
a hurting on my PCM grounding it out and
ultimately frying it and any other PCM I put in
it. Check those crank sensors. Dodges especially
Dakotas from any generation are very picky and
finiky about stock OEM Mopar branded crank
sensors. Now I'm worried if I don't find a Mopar
branded crank sensor for my 92 it will end up like
my 99 if I leave the stock malfunctioning sensor
in. You can only make it last for so long before
it starts to mess up the PCM. I'm on barrowed time
at this point. Sorry about my grammar and possible
spelling mistakes I'm a wrench turning kinda guy
not importantance of grammar and spelling one.
