i got a 95 dakota 4x4 with a 5.2 and i raced a guy who has either a late 80's or early 90's chevy 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive with dual exhaust adn about 350,000 miles on it and we took off and from the start i stomped him and got about a truck length lead on him and i was doing good and then i hit 100 and i look in my rear view and he pulled up beside me and the next thing i knew his rear bumper was at my door and then he let off and pulled back in behind me.... so i got on appointment to get mine in and have duals put on it and then a k&n air intake casue i cant be letting chevy's beat me

The extreme? I heard Daks have more to watch out for from Tacoma's than extremes. Has anyone seen the new S-Runner Tacoma? You can get it with a supercharger. 260hp!!! That'd be scarey.

I love Dodges but gotta pay respect to the faster truck, sometimes looks can fool you and just cuz its old doesn't mean its slow. ;)

It may have been a big motor too. If he caught you on top end. Remeber the old saying. No replacement for displacement. All you 318/360 guys should know that ;)
Hey do guys always call your motor the 5.2/5.9 or do you guys go by the Cubic inches.
It seems to me older guys use the Cubic Inches.
For instance most guys who talk F-bodies after 93 Talk LT1 or LS1. Before that they talk cubic inches.

I think the guys w/ the monster engines like sayin the numbers. I own the 5.9 360...kinda sounds cool to say its got a 360 in it, people are like damn. Of course I see alot of guys comparing the 5.9 to the infamous 5.0 so I'd agree its usually the old drag racers talkin cubic inches and younger guys talkin 4.7, 5.2 5.9, etc.

Usually by the litre, but not always, you'll hardly ever see 287, instead you'll see 4.7L.

Yeah I figured as much. I like to say it in Cubic inches myself. My engine is a 346 but no one knows what the hell that is so I have to say LS1. Then I see the light come on.
I Hope some of you guys know what the 135 is around here. I'll give you a hint. Sure wasn't all that great with a carb, but with a turbo...stand back.

The 135ci.....was that the 2.2 L 4 that was in the T-Bird turbo coupes? Sucked in pintos & stangs, but had some pretty good power when mated to a turbo. Just curious.

The Ford motor was a 2.3. Crap IMO.
The 2.2 is Mother Mopar's (based of a volkswagon) as seen in the Omni GLHS, and various other K-car platforms one of my most favorite motors in the world. Plenty of low end torque and the turbo spooled up just when you needed it.

Don't believe the 2.2 and 2.5L chryslers were based on VW. The first couple of years of the omni had VW engines in them. The 2.2 and 2.5 are loosely based on the old slant six. That's why those things will run forever!(well almost)

You gotta be careful of beater trucks. They can have damned near anything under the hood. From a stove bolt six to a hopped up big block, anything fits under the hood.

I once saw some pics of a '50s Chevy pickup w/ 6/71 blown small block (pro street trim iirc), stock hood, no hole.

One set that you have to be especially cautious about is the mid '70s. They're cheap, easy to work on, and iirc they are smog exempt (over 25 years old). Meaning anything goes. It makes it hard to tell the ~30% slugs from the ~65% movers from the 5% hot rods. Especially if they have beat up bodies.

Actually the bottom end is losely based of the slant six. However the top end, water pump, distributor, head, fuel injection system, timing components, were based off the VW remeber the slant six uses push rods, so piston sizes remained (of course the block changed) the same but the OHC desgin cam from the germans is all based off the Volskwagon 4cyl that is the stuff that usually breaks. Infact the pilot car for the first operational 2.2 was a Golf/Rabbit. One of those omni look alikes

The Lighting...I doubt it. Last week at Bremerton raceway there was a bone stock 2001 Lighting running 13.40s all night. Now I am not a Ford fan in the least but that is pretty damn good for a truck even if it has a huffer and NO Toyota unless you are talking overpriced Supra will run that. Let alone out run any of the Large displacement/turbo Mopars.
On a side not my 86 Lebaron auction car (135 bucks) is now pulling 14.80s in the 1/4 at 170,000 miles. So far the car has cost me 400 bucks total. Can't beat the Mopar 2.2 for durability and the cheap mods.

To the post about young guys using litres instead
of cubic inches to describe the engines is
unjustified, i think i use both equally, more so
when i talk about other peoples trucks . Just for
the sole fact that saying 287 is depressing. The
only thing that warrants Cubic inch talk should be
 anything over 300. LOL...................

Randy, be afraid of what? You suing the owner of a properly set up Dak because the shock wave of it's passing blows your Toy off the road and into the weeds, badly deflating your ego in the process?

Or the occasional 2.2 Turbo Mopar that will humiliate you to the point of tears?

There are guys with NATURALLY ASPIRATED 4.7 Daks knocking on the 13 second door, and that's before they tear into the engine and install HO cams, manifolds, and heads, never mind a blower or turbo. The latter tends to make Daks run in the high twelves, but that's not fair..is it?

I guess what you really fear is that decal you see so often. You know the one. It's on the tailgates of most Daks you see, that is, until they get so far ahead of you that you can't read it anymore. So, I'll tell you what it says: DODGE

I have not been impressed with anything Toyota has made (minus some of their Lexus line) When you have to pay over 20,000 bucks for a used Supra, that is plain insane. I would rather drive my Lebaron anyday. Not to mention my under 24,000 dollar 12 second Z-28. Tundra, that guy has got to be kidding, or at least trying to start a flame war.
