so that would mean that it is a 286 engine...or am I just not asking the question in the right way...what is the engine size, not 4.7L, but like there is a 305, or a 350, but I have never heard of it called just a 4.7L v8 magnum engine, it's gotta be called something else, maybe what type of motor it is, or something?!

It's commonly referred to as a 287 cubic inch engine.

it is a single overhead cam, 2 valves per cylinder, 4 stroke, 90 deg. V8 engine with a cylinder displacement of 4.7liters / 287 cubic inches.
i think that about covers it.
i don't understand? why would you want to call it something it isn't?

Youve got to be asking how big cubic inch wise a motor it is. When someone says Chevy 305 or 350 they are referring to the motor, but more importantly how big it is...305 cubic inch...350 cubic inch etc...

The 4.7L is a 287, when people referr to motors they call it its cube size or Liter size.

Hi,

I'm currently looking to buy an 03 or 04 Dakota Quad 4x4 with the v8. I've read that there are two different types of the 4x4, an AWD and a p/t 4x4. Does anyone know if one is better or not better ?
I appreciate any reponses in advance !

thx
mike

Ok, well. I have a 4.7l v8 magnum in my dakota. I looked up magnum, but its really a powertech. You say its a single overhead cam, but this one is a dual overhead cam. Its a 2000 dakota sport 4x2. You may call me an idiot, but its been identified as a dual overhead cam by several people

If it is a DOHC it would have (2) cams on each head. I do not believe Chrysler has any DOHC V8's.
