Did you even bother to read this old thread you tacked onto? Especially the part where we were talking about how the 5.9 is externally balanced? Yes, it will bolt up. But if you read the thread, why would you want your engine to be out of balance?

Some food for thought:
From what i've read in the past, i'm not sure how long that NV3500 5 spd will last behind a 5.9. Dodge used the NV4500 behind it in the Rams. And i don't think that trans will fit in a Dak without some body mods.

there should really be no differece....its like saying a 305 chevy motor os different than a 350...everything is the same really except the bore and maybe the stroke...otherwise they are near carbon copies...

i thought there were more differences in the 318 and 360 than just bore and stroke

i have a 1995 4x4 dakota 5.2 liter and iwant to
swap with a 5.9, what year of ram engines are
compatible,my trans is auto so do i need to change
flex plate or flex plate and torque converter?
does the harmonic balancer need to be replaced?
does all the accessories bolt on to the 360? will
my crank sensor fit the 360? if anybody can tell
me what i need to know that would be great so i
can get all my questions can be answered all at
the same time, im running out of time because my
318 has a knock in it, burned off lots of rubber
with it, time for something beigger, just lacking
the knowledge on how to do the swap, but really

93-01 heads and block are the same. Keep all sensors and manifolds from your 95 5.2l w/EGR you will need these for emissions reasons. Torque converter stays with the 44RE transmission you have and will work fine with the 360. You must have the flexplate and balancer from the 360 to avoid balance issues. You will need an oil pan from a Dakota R/T to clear the frame, the Ram will not work, and no the 5.2 pan will not go on a 318.

The 5.2 oil pan will fit the 5.9. But you need to use the 5.2's pan from the dakota, not the ram's.

hey mike im going to do a swap also but im getting a pcm from a 97 0r 98 durango that had a 5.9 in it a converter my dakota is a 97 and the 5.9 im getting is out of a 94 ram im checking the numbers of the tranny to see if i can use that converter in the 94 if any one knows or let me know if i am on the right track thanks moto

The converter stays with the trans. The converter from a 44RE
is not the same as a 46RE. The 94 and 97 block are the same
but you will end up using the manifolds from the 94 due to the
EGR system.
Guess I was wrong on the pan and always used a Dakota R/T
pan for the 360. I know for a fact that the rams pan will not fit
a Dakotas frame.
I always get the stock one reflashed for the performance and be
careful using different years.

Easiest swap would be a 5.9. Not many lift kits out there for the
97-99 Dakota. 2" of lift easy with blocks and T-bar crank or use a
body lift for a little extra tire room.

mine gets only 13 but the bearing on the ac went bad so i bypassed it and now get bout 15,somethings not right, is ur all stock if i do this ill first get some headers and dual exhaust, and a cold air intake.
