Well Larry,
if you can get the whole truck cheap, that would definately be the way to go.. but as far as getting the engine... IF you can get the extras, (such as harnesses, dash panels, little odd things like the thing that makes your brake light come on when your pedal goes down etc....) then youre still good. just make sure that if you come to a point to where you need something...that you can go back and get it. if not..youre gonna run in to some major money.

for what it's worth guys ,I priced an underhood wireing harness from my local dealer today for my 96DAK to put a 318 in mine. just the harness was 724.00 + tax. the parts manager was pretty cool and said if your gonna do a swap- find a doner truck for all the little missalaniouse stuff that comes up.i was thinkin of stuffin one of the new 408 crate motors in my Dak.would most likely have to stay carberated and that causes a whole new batch of problems. fuel preasure,obd2 harness and who knows what else.mine is a 96 short bed sport 4x4. 3.9 automatic. hope this helps

Allen. I too am interested in replacing my weak V6 with a 5.2. I have a 94 and want to replace it with a 2001 V8. I have automatic trans and wonder if '01 will bolt up to the '94? From other responses listed previously it's no easy task if you don't have access to wiring harnesses, etc. I also understand you need to install a shorter fan shroud? If anyone has made one of the swaps and can relay the experience it would be greatly appreciated.
