I've allready started painting my doors and interior panels. I am painting them the Duplicolor Mirage. Green/Purple. I have found the best thing to do is use a scotchbrite (dish scrubber) to lightly scuff the plastic. This will make is smooth but still show the design/pattern molded into the plastic. I can send pics if you want.

BTW- I have a molded dash cover installed by woodview. Its a brushed aluminum style. It looks great. Since I am painting all my interior (doors too) I have a set of interior door handle covers in the brushed aluminum look (both left and right) and the cup holder peice for the center console. $30 for all 3 peices. MUCH easier than taking your door handles out and painting, trust me.

i just painted my dash (a lot like intense99dak) but all i did was degrease it. i used one of those "orange cleaners" and it worked really well... took all the years of armour all off. I didnt sand it smooth because i like the dash texture. i slapped about 5-6 coats of clear on it and it REALLY shines. next i am gonna paint the trim around my interior door handles and maybe the arm rest. Reker- i am sure you are interested in this because we have the same color trucks so i will get pics up asap. btw-did you ever get any paint?

Hey guys sorry for the delayed response.. The spoiler was actually orderd through the dealer near where i live.. it cost around 450 for paint install and all.. not too too bad..

The paint on the door handles is holding up great.. i thought that it might have started to chip or peel.. but nothing.. other then a little bit of scrathces under the handle wich is to be expected..The mirrors actually were done when i bought the truck so im not sure how they were done.. but there is nothing wrong with them so i take it that time was spent on them.. As for the lock nobss.. do you mean the one inside or the ones on the handle.. the ones inside will come off when you remove the panel they will just unscrew.. and the ones for the handle just leave them in and tape the key hole.. thats all i did..

Hopefully you guys can get some pics so i can see how well you guys did.. and good luck on it as well..

I don't know if this will help but ill tell you guys anyways. I have a qaud cab slt. On the rear bumper I had the grey plastic pieces on the chrome bumper. Looks lame like that. I took them off, washed them, then i went down to autozone and got this stuff made by Bond Aid that is a adhesian promoter. This stuff is made for specificly for plastic. Just spray like 1 or 2 coats of this stuff on there, let it dry, then paint it. Like I said, I did the platic panels on the rear bumper, painted them black to match my truck. Looks SOOOOO much better. But the whole point of this is that you could use it on the dash also. A few weeks ago i got hit my a semi and he scrubed agains the side of the bumper, didnt do a thing to the paint. It stuck on there like a charm. So i would recomend this stuff for you to use on your dash also. Great stuff.

Personally I have found Duplicolor spraypaint to work the best. It is alot more forgiving on the novice. It doesn't seem to run as easy, and stays smooth. I have found that SuperKmart has it cheaper than Autozone.

Intensedak39... u get hose pics yet??? i couldnt make it to Napa yesturday b/c i went to go work out. Ill go there today and see if they got the paint. As for O'reillys, we dont have that here.

Red97kota.. thanks for ur reply. Yeah i was talking about the interior lock knobs. Ill prolly paint them when i put my new door speakers in.

Eric... yeah i saw ur dash on ur website... it looks pretty nice. Is it finished yet??.. i got the idea of my grille from you..lol... THANKS!!.. i just put the bottom peice in last night. pretty tricky if u have big hands. I couldnt get the bottom zip ties in b/c it was getting dark and i started swimming in my own sweat!.. damn the humidity.. lol.. Thanks for ur help on the instal though.

blackdak20, i saw that stuff also and was kinda curious. I think after hearing what u have said about it, i will buy like 2 cans prolly.

livedakota, the paint that me and Intensedak39 are using is "Dupli-Color".. its a spray paint. AutoZone and Walmart carry the paints from what i have seen. And to get them really shinny, we are going to spray 3-4 coats of clear coat on them. The dupli-color website (dupli-color.com) suggest that u only use Dupli color clear coat and primer when using their paint.

Whenever i get my paint i will paint my dash!!.. whenver that is!!! I will post pics when im done!

yeah that would look really neat together... since i painted mine so shiney, the instrument lights reflect off of the dash and it looks really cool. i plan on removing my cd player and making a little mount for gauges right there. not sure which gauges i want because dodge did a good job with getting rid of those idiot lights they use to have.... prolly a a/f gauge and nitrous for when i get my juice back...

either way good luck! let me know about the paint!

Ahhhh... I miss my 99 Dakota dash, like it much better than my 01 and 02 Dakota's dashes. Looks good intense, wanted to color match dash like yours but it will not look as good IMO due to the bulging radio surround and air vents, so I am going to just paint the instrument cluster surround to match exterior on both vehicles and hope someone makes an Indiglo cluster soon instead. Oh well, I guess somethings are just better left alone when it comes to design changes.

thanx guys... it was really easy but i went the lazy route and didnt sand the dash smooth so its still got its texture which makes the dash sorta change colors at different views. yesterday i painted my side mirrors to match, i already painted my front bumper to match and i will be painting my door handles soon. i wanted to paint the inside door handles but after taking off the door panels i noticed that it was all bonded together... crap.

IntenseDak39 --> I painted my interior door panels. I removed the handel assy, the arm rest (vinyl does not like paint), and the fabric insert. I just took a dremel and cut the melted plastic off. I then painted and after everyting was dry, I poxy'd all the pieces back on where the melted plastic was. It cam out really nice. I am painting all my interior peices kamelion colors. They change between green and purple in the light. So far I have painted my door panels, the windshield pillar plastic, the rear side panels (CC) and the kick panels. I am smoothing the rear panel below the rear window with bondo before I paint so it does not have any texture. After I paint that I am going to put an orion windshield decal on and than clear coat it. I am also building a custom center console to hiuse my amps, a computer, and a pioneer dvd player.

thats what i was thinking of doing but i didnt know if i wanted to spend the time/effort. i think i will be i think it would look good with just a few more intense painted items. with that vinyl crap i think that you can buy an adhesion paint to help it stick (i think it was mentioned above). if you get any pics i would like to see!

I took some pics but you can really see any color. They just look like the dark Dak interior.
I am just going to leave the arm rests alone. They will match a few things. For instance I am not going to paint anything on the dash except maybe my radio mount and maybe my aluminum gauge surround. Don't forget I have the aluminum dash cap and soon to be installed platinum gauges and a/c overlay. So basically my armrests, dash, door lock posts, door sills, carpet, headliner will match. And my door handle surround plastic, gauges, dash cap, and inside of my colsole will be silver/aluminum. The door panels, rear panels, kick panels, pillar panels, rear panel, radio mount, gauge overlay, and outside of my console will match in kamelion paint. I also have a 3 gauge pillar pod with autometer ultra light gauges, they are silver and will match the rest of my gauges. The console is going to be topped off with smoked plexi so you can look inside and see the amps when the neon is lit. The black plexi will match other things like my pioneer screen/stereo, a/c vents, etc.
So basically my interior will be 4 colors (kamelion, silver, black, and grey)
It is gonna look like something out of the 25th century LOL

If u can do this for me, email me the price total and any other info.

I was thinking about doing Carbon Fiber interior for my dash, but now I am alittle leaning towards doing this. Exactly what would all the steps be for painting this with the spray-paint, just clean up the dash and spray it a few times? Also, could this be done with things on the outside of the truck?

IntenseDak39.... THANK U!!! Give me ur email address so i can email u and get ur home address. Do u have paypal??.. if not, then i can just send money order.

Youngin... i was going to do that carbon fiber dash also, but i figured i could buy something better for my truck with that $200 dollars. Painting is better on the wallet!! But anyways, for the interior items its really easy and simple. Take the items out of the truck taht u want to paint. Clean them with a good degreaser cleaner (simple green, orang cleaner, etc). U can sand the items with a fine grit sand paper if u want, but its not necessary. U can spray 1 or 2 coats of primer on before u paint the actual color also, but not everyone does, so its not necessary either. Then u apply 2-4 coats of the paint u want let dry, then if u want it to shine shine shine, add a couple coats of clear coat. If i were u, i would buy all Dupli-Color Paints, primers and clear coats.

As for the outside items, i have never done it so i dont really know what to tell u, but im sure its the same way u would paint the interior items.
