Just ordered the M1. I'll have it on by this weekend and will post my results.

How much bigger is the x-large turtle? Do you have the dimensions?

Hey Robbie, get the M1 on yet? I ordered mine last Tuesday, and according to UPS, I shouldn't see it until Wednesday... Just curious how it worked out for you.

Yeah, we put all of that stuff on over the break. Dropped a second for 0-60 and gained 1.5 mpg. Not being an engine guru, I sure did learn a lot about what I was doing under the hood. The installation took about 20 hours even, much longer than I've seen some but I can promise you that I wont have any oil leaks around my manifold.

Also, after seeing how the old intake manifold handles the incoming air and how the M1 basiclly shoots the air straight into the runners, it's apparent to me that it would be a lot more potent w/ a better air intake. So I just ordered the intake kit from 360airintakez.com

Good luck on your install and if you need anything then dont hesitate to shoot me an email.

I have the small turtle. I used red locktite to fasten it. If I wanted to change it to a large , how hard is it gonna be to back that allen bolt outta there ? Or maybe should I just leave it as is ?

I put mine in while doing that install so I have no idea. We used Sensor Safe Black something or other to my X/L in and I remember there wasnt much room to work with. But anyways, if you are going to switch it out, then I would just go ahead and go w/ an X/L rather than the large. I did all of mine @ once so I dont really have a baseline to go by, but I've seen many posts where even people going from the large to X/L noticed a difference.

Sorry for the rambles...

Robbie.

I wouldn't mess with it. I have read a few posts that said the turtle didn't do anything for performance. I will be going without one, but may make one later to add if low-end torque is too bad. Maybe a "To turtle or not to turtle" post would help you.

I put the turtle in before the M1 was even installed. So i dont know if the turtle did anything. I cant believe how small the turtle is. ( Thats what she said) Its small enough to get sucked down the intake runner and go into the head if it comes loose.
It makes sense to have one though. Theres alot of empty space down in the intake where all the runners meet and that little pyramid helps direct the air where it needs to go. Havent seen any dyno results but I bet it helps.

Got the M1 today. 3 hours later, my truck sits without a manifold on it. So far:

Broken kickdown cable
Broken oil pressure sensor
Broken temp sensor

You gotta love that EGR valve too... Fun stuff!

Easy on the plastic man! hehehe When we installed mine, we took an extra look time on pretty much everything but only ended up with one fowl up... when everything back together I cranked it up and my temp. gauge pegged out on Hot. It was just the sensor though. We pulled it a little too hard to get it off and it wasnt making contact. Just took about 2 minutes to fix. Take your time, especilly on those horribly made plastic sensors. Have fun!

HAHA, now that's the way to do it! I also had to reroute a vaccum hose (i believe) from the driver side of the manifold to the passanger side because on the M1, there was only 1 thick acceptor on each side. No biggie though.

Also, the directions that come w/ the manifold for installation are great... I skipped/changed a couple of steps but for the most part I liked them. Although my huge gripe about them was that no where did it ever suggest to use Anti-Sieze on the bolts going into the manifold. It sure is going to suck for those people who didnt use it on their throttle body screws when they want to change/clean it. Strip!

I've removed/installed my M1 a few times, and never used anti-seize, and have never had a problem removing the bolts. Check your fuel injector o-rings as well. I nicked one of mine on install and it didn't run right. changed all the o-rings and it ran better. Also make sure the injectors are sitting all the way down. Might have to trim the spacers to get them to sit in all the way. On the vacume hose thing, you coudl always just swap around the PCV valve on the valve covers. Then you woudl have the passenger side valve cover hose going into manifold, and the drivers side going to airhat. Then you won't have ugly vacume hose lines running under the M1. Replacing the bypass hose is always a good diea, and inexpensive as well. I've seen too many go bad when re-used to not recomend buying a new one.

The turtle is definitly needed with the M1. I ran my 2bbl M1 for about 4 months before the turtlres were made. I bought the small one first, and didn't notice much, then bought the large one and it definitly made a seat of the pants difference. For n/a guys, I would suggest getting the x/l one. You will love it, especially if you dirve around without it for a while, then install it just to feel the difference.

HSKR... I ended up running that vaccum hose around the back of the M1 and inbetween the fuel rails. i was afraid of the heat being too much for it under the manifold itself. And on the Anti-Sieze, the chemical reaction itself would probably take a few years to happen... I had a set of aluminium wheels that siezed up on me... would hate for it to happen again.

Because of the weather, I haven't been able to do much testing of the new M1. I did, however, get a timed 0-60 run in yesterday. The times were EXACTLY the same.

I have noticed NO low-end torque loss at all when driving around casually. However, I did notice some loss when I was cruising in 3rd at about 2200rpm and stomped it. It was before I adjusted the kickdown cable I replaced, so it didn't kick down into 2nd. It was a dog... This makes me think that it would suck for towing. Anyway, that has been fixed and now everything is great. Pulls much harder in the higher RPM range. The real test will be the .25 mile. Can't wait!

Welcome to the M1 club. Yer computer still has to learn a bit. My M1 started to come on strong after about 150 miles after the install. Also I got 3 tenths ET reduction and +2 mph.

Like to hear YOUR results.

I got the M1 and couldnt be happier with it. No problems with the install although Eric (kotaondubs) did all the work : ) He got it done stupid fast and no leakes after around 2000+ miles. Im SC so the top end is rediculously insane. Low end didnt change much if any, even with a gutted cat and backfiring backpressure. If you live in SO Cal see if you can get kotaondubs to come over and do it for you, he will install it for very very cheap, like a 1/4 what a shop charges and you know its done right. I would say got for it, its a necessity for SC guys.
