Why do I need a new belt every four months? WTF? I've had the belt replaced several times, and it just starts to squeak like crazy a few months later. Last time, I had the alternator and a loose pulley replaced in December. It's April now, and the squeaking came back, despite the fact that I thought I had fixed the problem. WTF. Why is my truck chewing through belts like crazy? Oh, I also had a new belt tensioner installed. plain

Check the air conditioning clutch. Mine blew out twice last summer, taking a belt along with it. It never really squeaked that bad, but when the clutch burned out it smelled awful. like burning chemicals. might not be the problem, but its possible. in my experience, the culprit is usually the air conditoning clutch, as far as belt problems go.

Check real good and hard and make sure none of your lines or vaccums are leaking. Had the same problem on my 5.2 97 and it was a hose to the radiator one of the times.... second time it was the water pump that had a very very small leak which just grew over time. the moisture from the radiator caused this annoying squeaking sound.

The pot-metal of your tensioner wears out at the pivot, throwing the bearing out of alignment and causing squeeking.
Belt dressing will cause squeeking. Never use it.

What is the condition of the belt?

Serpantine belts need be replaced only when chunks come out of the ridges or there is bad fraying. Little cracks are normal. Mine has well over 300,000 miles on it.
