Ok this is what I have, a 98 3.9 with 2/3 drop from groundforce, the truck actualy sits lower due to the 17' wheels and low profiles, well the tire size is 225/55 r17, anyhow i am bottoming out so bad, I have cut the bump stops and put new schocks and it is still hitting real hard every little bump, I mean hard. I recently put these rubber spring stableizers in and it helped fro a lil while, but the problem still exist, anyone have a clue what else to do. the drop is coils and leafs.

I dunno, it's only a 2/3 drop?? Did u take out the bumpstops in the front and the back? If u did, i'd go with Rob and the shocks. The right shocks really can make a huge difference. & i had those rubber stabilizers too for a while & they didn't do squat.

I have some cheap gabrial gas schocks, and my bump stops are cut but I am going to replace them soon with some aftermarket ones. So you think that changing the schocks will help out that much, the ones i have in there now are 4 days old.

Rob were you bottoming out real hard evrywhere? For me every lil bump I hit hard.

Jesse,

Aftermarket bumpstops are very inexpensive, so go with some aftermarkets. Sporttruckdirect.com offers three different height bumpstops so try the 3/4". I had the 1.25" bumpstops on my truck and never hit the stops, unless it was a huge dip.

I'm guessing it is the front bumpstops that you are bottoming out on right? If you can return those cheap shocks you purchased and get some Doetsch Tech shocks, they are good shocks! The rear stocks were a little stiff, so I ran Doetsch Tech for the front and stock R/T shocks for the rear. This worked for me (single cab) but running Doetsch Tech on all four corners might work perfect for you(ex-cab:more weight in rear), especially if the rear of your truck is also bottoming out.

Yup, 3/4" bumpstops all around with four Doetschs should put a smile on you from ear to ear! Good Luck!

just a thought but the bumpstops probably are not gonna help anything. You mentioned before that you have a 2/3 drop and smaller tire dia than stock therefore your ground clearance between your front crossmember and ground is very minimal. We are in the same boat with the ground clearance issue and let me tell you taht your crossmembeer will hit the ground before you hit the bump stops.Atleast thats how it is on my truck.I would get either the billsteins or the edelbrock they will give a much smoother ride than shocks made for a bigger drop.

Jesse & Steve,

You can purchase the Doetsch Tech shocks for $39 each and here is the site I purchased them from:

http://www.sporttruckdirect.com/Doetsch_Tech_shocks.html

Sporttruckdirect.com has good customer service, give them a call for part numbers for different rear drops. As far as bumpstops, I'd go with some 3/4" for a five inch drop. These smaller bumpstops won't give you as much travel room as a good c-section(Steve). ;)

Am I the only one who dislikes their Doestech shocks? When I changed my rear shocks from stock to doestech I noticed a terrible difference. Every pebble on the road I felt and it felt like I was bottoming out every time. I'll soon be replacing my rears back to stock to salvange my ride. BTW, in the rear is a 4" belltech hanger drop.

Jeez. You dodge guys have it really bad. I can do a 4/5 drop on an S10 and it wont bottom out at all unless you have some weight in the back. And thats with bumpstops. I was going to lower my dads dak when I get it but Im having second thought now. Maybe Ill just put the 318 in it.

Jesse,

Yup, I'm the one that sold you the drop kit. When I had the kit, I had Doetsch tech on all four corners. Kota on 20s(4/6 drop) recommended the Doetsch shocks to me and we both have nothing but good things to say about the shocks. **Read the next section for rear bolt size (different than stock).

Ed Luva,

I noticed this problem when I first installed the shocks for the rear. The stock rear bolts are too small for the Doetsch shock, so this causes the stock to move up and down. The top of my shocks were hitting the bed of the truck, which felt like it was bottoming out. I took a stock bolt to my local hardware store and purchased larger bolts & nuts that were the same length as my stock ones. The larger bolts eliminated the "play" and it made a night and day difference. It is only one bolt on each side that will need replacing, but I don't remember if it is the top or the bottom. Best thing to do is remove the shock and test the top and bottom bolt holes for the "play". Compare this to the stock shock and you will notice a difference. Heck, you can take the Doetsch shock to the hardware store to compare different size bolts. Hope this helps. If you need more information shoot me an email.

To Jesse T. Well while I like the looks of a slightly lowered first gen Dak it is the looks of an aired out 2nd gen S10 tucking 20s that turns me on. Also just dropped on some 17s looks sooooooo good on an S10. Dont get me wrong I like Dakotas but I have loved S10s since forever. Also dont see too many bagged Daks. I would love to see more of those. 2nd gen Daks on bags are really phatty because when they are aired out they get a lot of negative camber. Almost like a Ranger. Looks so phat

I have a 99 cc 3.9 2wd auto. I have the Belltech 2/3drop (coils & leafs) with nitro-active shocks at all 4 corners. Also R/T wheels with 255/55/17 rubber and all bump stops cut, I drive fast with NO bottoming, ever! Maybe your wheels have a different backspacing than mine, if they "stick out" more than spec'd they are creating more force on the suspension. Just a thought. I've seen more "suspension" problems caused by improper wheel offset, than actual springs & shocks. Still, get good shocks!

Yes I think the toxic shocks suck too! I had them on for about 2000 miles before I said "enough". Belltech makes 2 different shocks, the nitro drop and the nitro active, I have the nitro active and I love em. I've gone for the "performance stance" as I live in So. Cal. and I hammer the canyons (2/3"drop, sway bars front/rear, shocks). I've heard good things about the edelbrock shocks, but no personal experience. Just make sure to order the right length shock to match your drop. Good luck,

Darryl

jesse t., just curious, were you bottoming in the front or the back? the front i dont know, but if it was the back, did you think of a c notch? it might give you enough clearance...just a thought. by the way 305 s10 is right, you can drop an s10 to the frame and still have clearance, ive owned 5 of them, but i gotta admit, the 97-up dakotas look way better than an s10. in this part of the country, you cant step anywhere without stepping on another lookalike s10. the dakota stands out much more.

There should be about 2" of space above your front bump stop. Energy Suspension makes bump stops that aren't too expensive. The rear for mine were only $10.00. If you still have factory bump stops, you will have to drill them off. You might find them at a AutoZone near you. Good luck.
