Subject: Air bagged dakota ????
IP: Logged

Message:
Hi,

I'm new to custom trucks and I recently purchased a dodge dakota 2wd regular cab and was wondering if I put air bags on it till it is about a inch off the ground would that effect performance or would it improve my handling. Also what else would I need to improve its handling.

Thanks,
Dan

P.s.
Any info would be greatly appreciated, and I'm sorry if the ?'s sound stupid ,but I want my dak to be perfect.

i have not ridden in a bagged dakota, but a lot of my friends have bagged trucks (too many nissan hard body's, tacomas and S-10's to count, 2 rangers, and some cars)

all ride like $hit!! most dont have shocks though.

if you want the best ride, 4-link the rear, and run shocks.

If you bag your truck right it will handle very good. I have a 4 link and shocks and my truck rides as good as when I was dropped on steel if not better. If you have any other ?'s email me at bmuscato76@yahoo.com.

My '98 Dakota is bagged up front and it rides fine. A 4 link is definitely the way to go. Don't ditch the shocks, that's the cheap and lazy way. Just relocate them so they still dampen the oscillation.

Dakotas are meant to be driven low and to drag hard!!

i would love to bag my new dak but i have heard that they ride like sh!t. i want really good ride and handling--is that possible with bags?? also, would i have to lower it first and then bag it, or could i go bags from stock?? is it possible to run sway bars with them or is that out of the question??

sorry if this seems elementary, but i know nothing about bags and no one i know has them.

i got a 99 dakota bagged with V6. its also bodydropped. i got a 4link rear and tubular upper and lower control arms along with a belltech anti sway bar with shortend endlinks. i relocated the front shock behind the control arms and i used stock shocks out of a 2000 dakota quad cab with a 5.9. really stiff shocks. but the airbags are always soft so its an excellent combo. any, the ride quality is awsome and it handles excellent. just make sure its all done right and its good for many years. i had bags in my dako for almost 4 years. just recently i changed bags only because i went with bigger ports and 1/2 inch lines. the bags that came out were good as new.

if you bag it right it will ride like a caddy.you can still run a sway bar but you will only be able to go up and down no side to side.and the one thing to remember for handling is to run your bags off seperate valves from each other.mines bagged and bodydropped and i love the ride.if you want to see some pics go to WWW.infamouscustoms.com but i still have a lot of work to do

When my truck had just a drop, the ride was pretty hard, but the bags did wonders. I don't recommend driving without front shocks as some do, it can be dangerous.

If you go bag I would upgrade the front sway bar or add one to the rear if you want handling.

Sup Guys,

I have a gen I, and I have every intention of bagging her. Facts are bags done right will always improve ride quality. To do them right, you definately need to maintain your shocks, and use a four link system. Of coarse you can cut corners, but you get what you pay for. Using a sway bar always helps with handling as well. Just thought I'd share some of the info I learned over the years.

i just happened to come across this forum, and i say bag em all! i have a 99 r/t bagged and it rides pretty damn good. i need to redo my rear setup with a 4-link (ran low on money) so it isnt quite as bouncy in the rear. the front rides like a caddy though and i feel that my handling and performance actually went up. check me out at streetsourcemag.com im q36 on there, or e mail me at q36rt@msn.com with any ?s.

i have a 98 dakota sport with a 2/3 drop for right now. i want to either drop it 3/5 later this summer or bag it. now i dont know crap on baggin. and heard most of you said they ride great if you keep the each bag with its own link, so their independant from eachother. this is a 4cyl. and i have no idea how much itll cost or what to do. i know itll be roughly 2k, or so i been told by other bagged truckers. but is that right? and what kind(s) of whatever i would need for this project should i get? i got a set of 17 r/t rims sitting here as well. no tires yet but that is something i need to take into consideration as well. i am getting low pro's though and i want to fill up the wheel well. i have no idea what i am getting into. educate me! ha!

i dont know a lot about bags myself... but a friend of mine has an older ranger that has been bagged... he has a total of 6 drag blocks (titanium) that he can drop it all the way and really roll sparks out underneath... anyway, thats not the point... if you go 2 link on the rear with bags and then however you go about the front is your business, but the 2 link rear allows you to drop DRASTICALLY further as you dont have another couple links getting in your way... plus you still ride like a caddy... email me and i can give you his email so you can ask him how he has it done...

each bag doesnt have to be "independent" of each other. if you setup a 4 way suspension and move it alot you WILL eventually screw something up. the biggest thing is that you should put a 4-link for the rear setup. mine is an r/t and i should've used a 4-link when i bagged mine. i ran out of money to buy it. the r/t wheels will fit in the front but not in the back. you would have to shorten the rear end so the fender lip doesnt sit on the tire. and a 2-link doesnt let you "drop DRASTICALLY further." you can only go the the ground. and mine sits on it with the leaf springs. but, a 2-link or 4-link will ride better and it will be faster about going up and down.
