Hi, I'm in the market for a new 2003 Club Cab Dakota and wanted to get input on the pros and cons of both of them. I have heard the 3.9 isn't that great? I haven't heard much on the 4.7, so any help would be great!! Also are their any big diferences between the SLT or the Sport??Thanks

I just picked up my 2003 CC with the 4.7. I traded in my 2000 3.9 dak. The V8 is very much worth it. Towing an 18' boat to behind the 3.9 was painful at best. Accelerating from a stop during hot weather was slow also. I am very glad I got the 4.7

Totally worth every penny considering that you might even get better gas milage from the 4.7, also the fact that if u get the 3.9 u'll be flooring it all the time to get anywhere... trust me i had the 2.5 I4, and i almost left it in neutral and rolled it off a cliff.... stupid dodge for putting an I4 in these dakotas.... it erks me everytime i think about it.

I have a 2001 QC with the 4.7 and love it. A friend has the exact same truck as I do , but 3.9. She is kicking herself!

2 people, 2 large dirt bikes, all the riding gear and a coleman pop-up camper ...... the QC (4.7L)just sails along! Wouldn't even put a log of wood in a 3.9 with out a huge hill to get you going! :-)

Get the 4.7.

I ordered a 2003 Dakota CC in December, got it in January with the 4.7 V8, FT 4WD, LSD, Tow package, HD service package, 265/16 wheels, 5 spd auto, 3.92 gears. With all the stuff it weighs in around 4200 lbs. The 4.7 moves this beast around very well & gets 18-20 mpg highway (with the A/C on & running 70-75 mph), 12-13 in town. I hate to think what it would be like if I had the 3.9 V6.

Get the V8 without thinking twice about it.

I had a V6 Quad Cab (yep, I was a sucker ; ) )
sport plus model ... it was nice but I had to
mash the gas to get it to do anything.

I traded it in (got a good deal, DC was dealing)
on an 03 4.7l Quad SLT... I love it.

And get this: The V8 actually burns less gas
than the V6 if I keep my foot out of the
accelerator in average city driving.

Now, I wouldn't dish the 239 cid V6. Remember in the B body Dakotas, the did have a bit more power and also got good fuel milage. Now as for the C body. YEs. Chrysler made some degrations to that engine just so it could pass emisions.

Before I got my current Dakota. I tested out a '96 2x4 SLT with a 239 V6 mated to a 42RE tranny. I was suprised at the fact it could keep up with my V8 Dakota. Could this engine been modifed a bit? I thought so myself. But never could see any add on's.

STS: The GenII (pre-'97) Daks weighed 300 pounds less than Gen III's. Good old power-to-weight ratio.

Daks being referred to as B and C body ? To me, B and C body Mopars will always be cars. Kind of partial To the old A bodies (Barracuda, Dart, Duster, etc.) myself.

What ever you wanna call. Gen II or B-body. Acturly the BR Dodge was the code name of the B-body Ram. This generation RAm is refurred as CR= c body RAm.

Ok, I'give to you like this. The 6 could smoke the tries if you pushed it at 20 MPH. Does it sound like it could haved been tweeked up?

I too had made a V6 mistake.

Bought a 2002 CC 4x4 SXT with the 3.9, 3.92 gears, and Automatic. It was a left over, one of two that were left from 02 on the lot. Got a great deal and that is what I needed at the time as my 98 Neon R/T had seen its end and I really wanted a truck this time around. It was not a bad truck at all, but could not do the things I really wanted it to do, plus I about shot myself for getting an Auto as I am one who has always been a manual tranny lover.

So....2 months ago I traded it in at a dealership owned by one of my Dad's good friends since the rates were low for interest and the cash back was at 3k. Plus he did his best to get me within $650 of what I had left to owe on my 2002. It is a 2003 Dakota Sport Plus Quad Cab 4x4 with a 4.7L V8 and a 5spd manual tranny. I have absolutely ZERO complaints on this truck. I'll be holding on to this one for a good while.

I really like the Dakota, but some day if I get enough cash I would like to get a fullsize truck. I want a new one if I do and they are just too far up there in price right now.

Hey guys, this is a bit off topic but I was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to make a V8 paxton supercharger fit on a V6 dodge engine?

For those who own/owned a 3.9L, did you guys have mods done to your truck like: Air Intake, headers, Dual Exhaust, ect.?

On my SXT I had:

AP3923 plugs
Intense Performance Stage II Intake
Single in/out Dynomax 17748 Super Turbo
48mm F&B TB

Those mods definitely helped the truck out alot. Better acceleration, etc. Best mod was the 48mm TB from F&B.

When I traded the truck I removed the TB and Intake and re-sold them.

If you are running a 3.9L, those mods will make a definite difference for you.

So who much does a new 4x4 Club Dakota weight? My 94 SLT Club cab weights in at around 4500 lbs.

It should sence the 239 cid is just a destroked 318 with two less cyl. Just like the 3.7 is derived from the 4.7.
