Subject: Intermittent Pulsation ??!?!
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 2000 c.c. 4x4 with only 13000 km. on it. I keep getting this intermittent vibration or pulsation in the cab when I put the brakes on. Strange thing is, is that I just replaced the rear drums, and got the front rotors resurfaced. I cannot feel it in the brake petal or the steering wheel.
So, what the heck is wrong here? Is it possible that it is the tires? They are hardly worn, no missing balance weights or flat spots. Front end seems tight.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

My rotors failed 8,000K on my 2001 Dak 4x4. I felt my entire seat vibrate as well as my passengers experienced vibration. Had to turn the rotors. The question is how long will they last? Looking around the nation it appears warped rotors are inherent on several D/C products.

13000 miles and the dealer claims the pads are too hard for the rotors. They said they would replace the pads and rotors for me.... went to pick it up and they only replaced the rotors and "scuffed up" the original pads. STILL have the problem and will be asking for new pads! This is the second time I have been in for the same problem - first time they said they could not find anything!

I have a 01 quad w/12,550 Miles. For the last 2k miles I have felt a slight vibration when braking at a slow rate. I thought it was the road or something. I will keep an eye on it as well. My real problem is a thumping in the rearend between 40-50 mph any thoughts? My first 8.25 rearend went out at 4500 miles and the replaced it with the 9.25

Just purchased a 2K QC 4x4 with the identical problem that everyone else has been typing about. However, my problem is it gets worse as the brakes heat up so I'm figuring it's related to the brakes needing some maintenance/replacing. No warranty, so will be doing it myself :)> At least I'll know what I've done to the truck....

I also have a 2000 2-wheel drive C.C and am experincing the same vibration when braking. It is very pronounced at higher speeds, but again not all the time. I have had it checked and the mechanics say the brakes are fine. They suggested that it might be the anti-lock feature coming into play. Not sure what that means, so will do more research.

Ive got taht problem, and i have a 2001 4wd. Just had rotors replaced at 11,000, its 16,000 they turned the drums as they were out of round and went halfs with me on the price.

i brought it back in and they guy who drove it could ACTUALLY!! feel it. so they looked at it and thought it might be transmission related. they are looking at it sometime this week. i will let you know if they find anything else out.

i doubt its that, but well see.

Have an 01 4.7L Auto and experience the same pulsating feeling at low idle-speeds. Don't think it is brake-related because the truck will still pulsate going up a slight incline, therefore traveling at a speed less than idle speed without the brakes being applied. Asked the dealer and they just said it was the torque converter and it was normal for these "bigger engines", but I don't think so...

Hi all,

Well I talked with the Customer Service rep at Diamlier-Chrysler (Dodge). After I had my rotor turned for free at the dealers.

Apparently all she planned to do was talk with the dealers service dept to help me get the problem corrected. After I told her that the dealer had turned the rotors her job was done. However my file will remain on a shelf. I tried to explan that the warapped rotors were a symptom of a bigger problem. Alas, her job was done.

I then went to the web site of the NTHSI (?) and left them a message. It is a safety issue as you could lose control during braking. I'm sure the government can help them!!!

I work for a Lexus dealer and i am currently working on my friends '00 dakota at my house. my friend had the same complaint as everyone here. i am ase certified in brakes, so i know a thing or two about brake systems. most everyone on this site is complaining of pulsation felt while aplying the brakes. if you feel the pulsation in the seat or body of the vehicle this is typically a problem with the rear drums. If felt in the pedal or wheel the problem is usally from front rotors. my friends problem started when he got new rims and tires. after inspecting the rear drums i discovored that the ballance weights protude from the surface of the drum. the new rims will not fit flush on the surface of the drums, so when the wheels are tightned it applies uneaven pressure on the drum and ends up warping the drum,

miss Godiva, if you write ASE or check their web site, they can send you a study guide. it will be simular questions but not an actual test. this way you can study and be prepared for the type of questions asked, and the type of answers they are looking for . hope this helps. Surprisingly enough , My dealer replaced the rear shocks on my DQC. Said the brakes were ok, but the rear shocks were bad causing a slight wheel hop during braking. I will have to drive the truck for a while, for the problem doesn't happen all the time, but I will let you know what the results are once I log a few miles on it.

Also, just a thought, do you think it might be possible that the rear body dampener could be oscillating and causing the truck to bounce around? It moves pretty easily when you shake it. It might be bouncing around during braking.

I have an 02 5.9. I felt the brake pulsation at about 7000 miles. Took it in to the dealer and they cleaned it, It went in again at about 12,000, they turned the rotors. Again at about 15,000, they replaced the front rotors but no pads. That lasted for just over 12,000 miles at which time I was informed by the dealer that since these rotors were over 12,000 miles I would be buying new rotors and pads myself. I took to a local shop since I had to flip for the bill. They replaced left and right pads and rotors to the tune of about $300.00. Two days later pulling into the parking lot, the left wheel was smoking. The caliper was seized. That cost another $175.00. About a week later with 34,000 miles on it pulling into the same parking lot, the right wheel was smoking. Right caliper seized. Another $175.00. I now have 39,000 miles on it and on Sunday 10-19-03, my ABS and Brake light comes on. I take it into the dealer and it turns out to be a leaking brake line at the right caliper. Oh yes another $80.00.

It's the cheap friggin' rotors! I've been fighting with my local dealer since June. I turned them in August and 8500 miles later, they're warped again causing the same shimmy in the front end as you're having. Today I was told my rotors were warped and there wasn't enough "meat" left to legally turn them again and they'd have to be replaced. I told them to put it back together again because I wasn't putting a new pair of their cheap friggin' rotors or pads on my truck again. I bought a set of Raybestos "Power-Stop" rotors which are slotted and ported, along with Raybestos Ceramic Pads. The rotors are for severe braking conditions. The rotors were $98 ea. and the pads were $63.00 plus installation for a total of $354.42 including tax. Les Shwaub was $500.88 with their $45.00 mark-up per rotor plus re-man calipers which I didn't need. Shwaub is getting to be as bad a the Dealerships for rippin' people off! Good Luck Buddy!

have a 2003 dodge 1500 ram quad cab started feeling vibration and pulsatihg and pulling to the right around 15,000. Took to Waldorf Dodge MD. was told that the brake rotors had to be turn FRONT and BACK! And that its not covered, and that its normal wear and tear. call dodge and they said there was no tsb- but i inform them that there was, after two days the dealer agreed to turn ONLY the front the rotors and replace claipers. this seem to dampin the pulsating but the vibration and pulling still contuines. brougth it back and was told the back rotors DO NOT causes this when dealer has to pay for it only if i want pay for it. im being told that it (vibration, pulling)is not related to brake probelms and that the warping did not cause the problem? I'm selling my '03 DQC
I'm getting tired of the high repair bills for a basically brand new truck!
front rotor's and pads 350.00
blown water pump 825.00 (wanrranty thank god)
had to wait five hours for Chysler diamler to
get the truck towed.
intermitant stalling when first started dealer has
no idea what the problem is (200.00 for diagnostic work!!)
to top it all off the gas milage is getting worse every day.
Lesson learned: buy Toyota Tacoma had one for five years (189,000mi) never had a problem

Hi I actually leftthis same problem on another posting, but it is definitely the same as you. I bought a 05 Dakota QC in august of this year, and at 1800Km the brakes started to do a shimmy when I went to slow down at stop signs I had the rotors replaced and they were ok for a little while. Now, about 2000Km later it's starting up again. I was told by the service department that I was riding my brakes. No, I do not! This to me is a real safety issue! I'm going in to Wiile Dodge to file my complaint with the owner next week. I doubt I'll get any good results, so we'll wait and see what the next step is.
